2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 KyotoLefty (3480) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JUL 28, 2010
Draught at the brewpub. Served with lemon, which took over the nose. Some banana, clove, and ginger in there too. A bland American wheat ale cum weizen. Banana, lemon, and ginger in the mouth. Not very crisp or refreshing. Mediocre.

Pretty wheaty aroma. Uncloudy look. Falvor is better though. Not that wheay, with a good light character. Drinkable.

Tap at brewery. Pours too clear and water; aroma of lemon, wheat, and hops. Flavor: pilsner? Anemic hops and malt. Watery palate. Deceptive; this is a PILSNER, not a WEISSE.

Draught sample. Has more of an American wheat profile. Good wheaty aroma with bit of yeasty tang and mild citrus. Hazy amber with thin lacing head. Medium-light body with heavy carbonation. Starts with tangy wheat, mild citrus notes and dusty grain. Decent. Light hoppy finish, kind of dry, with dry acidic after.

(Draft: Pike Pub & Brewery in Seattle, WA) Sweet, spicy nose, with kind of odd maltiness. Hmm, one of the stranger wheat beers I’ve tried, it’s taken me a few minutes to place the aroma, but it’s just like opening a fresh bag of wheat bread. The wheat malt seems a bit toasty, like it’s been freshly harvested, and sweet, like it’s been slightly caramelized. Very light bitterness comes out in the finish. Light bodied, with enough wheat malt so that it’s not watery. Pale golden in color, and fairly hazy, it’s topped by a small white head that settles to a ring. Some patchy lacing at the top of the glass. Very different, but once over the shock, I like it.

tap at the brewpub - Pours lightly hazy and yellow with a faint yeast and citrus aroma. The flavor is light and sweet with maybe a hint of citrus. The body was too thin. The finish was clean. I agree with some others that this was kind of disappointing for a hefeweizen, but it’s not bad.
