On tap. Delicious, delicious. Pours near black with a good head that is as dark as I have ever seen. Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate. Smooth, smooth drinking. Alcohol is totally hidden. Wonderful balance. Just great.

This black creamy stout is huge in flavor but not in alcohol. Packed with deep toasty malt and bitter baker’s chocolate, Pike extra stout is both mild enough to drink a whole bomber, and wicked enough to stand up to a charred steak on the Barbie. Opaque with a thick resilient tan head, the aroma is a melange of caramel and chocolate malts with hops being nearly undetectable. Finishes dark and very bitter with a light sweetness on the fade. A hearty beer for a cool fall evening.

bottle-pours almost pitch black with a dark cola appearance with a small tan fizzy head around the rim of the glass-big black licorice, anise and dark chocolate on the nose-not much roast. dank char flavors with lingering burnt notes with some milk chocolate/baking chocolate sweetness in there. however, as the beer warmed, it became more char-ish. body is mjedium and perfect for this beer. not a small stout but not an imperial-exactly how they advertise it! Overall, im pretty impresed but i would like to thy this one fresh.

Sweet dark cocoa aroma. Black in color with a thick caramel head. Bittersweet cocoa flavor with some dried fruit and espresso notes. Overall, really awesome and tasty. Plus, for the price I paid, it was a value to boot!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20 ExpendableHero (518) - Florida, USA - SEP 18, 2011
This was great. Pours almost black, with a brown head. Aromas of chocolate, and dark coffee. Taste is a bit one dimensional: strong, dark chocolate, mild coffee, molasses, and caramel. Actually a stout where the sweetness takes over the more bitter coffee flavors. Heavy beer, but still easy to drink. This stuff is very tasty.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Brigadier (1837) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - SEP 15, 2011
650 ml bottle
I don’t know why it has taken so long to get around to opening this. If I had known how good it was I would have gotten around to my only bottle a long time ago. Even after a year in the cellar it is holding up quite well. Considering the price this is an excellent value for those who can get it on the West Coast.
Aroma / Appearance - The black body was very lazy as it flowed from the bottle into my goblet. With a dense head it played the part of stout as well as any other beer that I have ever run across. Dark chocolate, raisins, anise, and the smell of a thick truffle blend effortlessly into a contemplative and heady experience.
Flavor / Palate - Rich black coffee immediately hits the tongue. Following closely behind is a mouthful of bitter grounds and smoke. The dry finish invites another sip until eventually there is no more. A robust example of the style this affordable release is another gem from Pike and reminds me why I need to get out there again at some point.

22 oz from malt and vine, redmond WA. poured a very creamy rich black. head was light but brown in color. aroma was rich of cocoa and smoked flavors. first sip brought in chocolate, coffee and caramel mixed perfectly, but a sense of a smoke feeling to it. actually first sip was with 30 seconds left in a the ND vs Michigan game in the first night game ever at Michigan with ND scoring when I cracked the bottle. delicious after taste with a mouthful of coffee roast with creamy rich feeling on the tounge

Long finish, reasonable balance on a deep-roasted stout, avoiding going too far with the suggestion of tobacco or celery seed--notes I pick up a bit here. Not especially rich. (on tap at brewpub)
