3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 blankboy (4287) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 30, 2006
Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & mds -- my bottle courtesy of acertain. Not sure what vintage, ’05-’06 I think? Pours a deep black with a huge mostly-lasting light-brown head. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit, hops and chocolate. Slightly sweet flavour of coffee, roasted malt and chocolate with a dry bitter finish. Medium bodied. Hmmm, not as great as I expected, maybe some batches are better then others? Either way, I still quite enjoyed it.

Pours a near-black with a thick brown head. Good lacing. Very roasty aroma and flavour, charred and a little earthy. Bitter chocolate and a hint of fruit (yeast?). Smooth and full-bodied, with medium sweetness. Finish is quite dry. This plays more like a foreign stout in my mind, but who cares... it’s awesome!

Bottle courtesy of ditmier in the Perfect 10 trade. Pours a deep jet black, viscous, with a thin dark tan head which swells a bit with agitation. Really nice aroma with plum, roast, caramel, coffee, and a touch of dark cocoa. Medium bodied, really smooth and roasty, with some nice dark chocolate notes. Long smooth roast bitter finish with a little light char flavor coming through. This was really good.

[1098-20080216] Tap @ Pike brewpub (Seattle, WA). Mocha roasted malt aroma. Black body with a long-lasting creamy tan head and thick lacing. Very thick burnt coffee malt roast flavour. Rough and thickly full body. Overpowering coffee but a solid stout regardless.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a head of foamy fine to medium sized brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a opaque dark ruby red brown colored body and a good lacing. The mild aroma was brown malt and dark malt. The semi-thick mouth feel was tingly at the start with a mediumly tingly finish with a lingering malty aftertaste. The mild flavor contained notes of mild hops roasted malt and dark malt. A special thanks to Charles and Roseanne for sitting and talking with us on our vacation. It was a pleasure to meet the founders of the brewery and Merchant Du Vin.

Black color with a thin head. Interesting aroma of barley and black currant. Totally unexpected flavor that reminded me of madiera. Sour and malty with a strong bitter finish. Syrupy.
