<22 oz. bottle from LS - Pours the blackest beer I’ve seen. Average tan head. Light lacing. Has a nice roasted coffee aroma and flavor. Flavor is quite bittter. Mouthfeel is dry. Medium body. A good beer, but just a little to bitter for me.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Gusler (2655) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - APR 19, 2002
UPDATED: MAY 10, 2003 Dark as the cloudy moon-less desert sky, the head a velvety chocolate crown, the lace a shield against the light. Sweet toasted grains, bitter-sweet chocolate and a over cooked pot of coffee, what the hell else could you say to describe this nose, start is ambrosial, the top thick and chocolate like. Finish has a spiteful hop spicy bite, the acidity stinging, the aftertaste bitter chocolate dry and one damn fine stout in my humble opinion.

Complex stout with a strong degree of bittersweetness--though not unpleasant. The X’s definitely indicate the strong punch.
3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 aracauna (2649) - Georgia, USA - DEC 23, 2002
Nice pour, deep opaque black with an easy, thick creamy head that clings to the sides of the glass. It’s not exactly long-lasting, but it never fully fades (ends up thin cream layer that’s too thick for a film, but kind of like a like coat of moss or lichens). The aroma is a little weak, but roasty. The flavor is as strong as it should be but it dominated and unbalanced by too much burned bitterness. A bit of smokiness lingers underneath. The lack of balance makes this less than a joy to drink, but intriguing at the same time.

Draught sampler at the brewpub. Deep brown-black with ruby tints and a drak tan head. Aroma and flavour are big and roasty, with a lot of coffee, and hints of molasses and smoke, with a dryish finish that’s kinda like chewing on a coffee bean. Great mouthfeel. A very fine stout!

Thanks to whoever popped this at the ORF release! Dark pour with a fluffy chestnut colored head. Aroma is chocolate and heavy roast. Flavor is dominated by roast and peat. Finish is dry and and bittersweet chocolate

22oz bottle. Good multiple aromas from this beer. Smoke, wood and mild sweet licorice. Black body with dark tan head and oily lacing left on glass. Medium body texture along with some coffee and coco flavors. Smooth on the palate and left a dry tobacco aftertaste.
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 nearbeer (2572) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 8, 2010
$3.99 Bomber. Opaque with a lasting creamy ring of bubbles and frosty lacing. Nose is chocolate chip cookie dough, berries, oatmeal, char, coffee, dark chocolate. Heavy body is drinkably watery, smooth and sweet, but well-balanced by the roast . Tastes of hickory-smoked milk chocolate, espresso, oats, tart berry, light sour cream, and charry wood. Extra overall point for the nice price.
