COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A full-bodied beer with deep chocolate color, velvety malt texture, and a dark-roasted flavor, with hints of smokiness and coffee. It combines the dryness of traditional Dublin-style stout with the strength and character of Imperial Stout.

Black Coloring with Tan Head. HEavy Load of Sweet/Dry Barley. Pretty Crazy Tasting Stout. Really Sweet Barley Taste That Quickly Becomes Bitter and Dry at the End. Syrapy Mouthfeel. Really Tasty but Wimper at the Thought of Having Another.

This was from a 22oz bottle purchased in Ashland, Oregon. It poured a deep black color, and left a nice tan head. Lacing was chunky and attractive in the glass. The nose was sweet molasses, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, nice roast malts, and citrus hops. Mouthfeel was thick and oily, and very smooth. Flavor is the molasses, coffee, chocolate, malts, hops and some sweet fruits kicking in. and some dark fruits. Finish was long and enjoyable with just enough piney hops to go with the coffee at the end. Wonderful brew.

22oz bomber. Opaque black with a steady beige-brown head. Big, sweet, roasty, chocolate aroma. A pretty nice Stout, thick specialty malt tones, quite rich. Quite above par for the style, this has all the big taste of an Imperial Stout without the cloying stickiness or brutal ABV. Bigtime chocolate flavor. Well done.

Bomber. Pours ultra-black with some amber hues at the edges and an interesting two-layered head-- the bottom half was a darker brown, the top half a khaki tan, with a definite line between them. The aroma is coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, and red wine- a more sophisticated nose than I had expected. The flavor is coffee, bitter chocolate, mildly acidic raspberry, and toasted wood at first. It then gets some brown sugar and rum notes, but the roastiness intensifies to keep the sweetness at bay. The finish is somewhat piney, and also a little bit vinous. It leaves an ashy, but tasty, aftertaste. Basically a session-strength imperial stout, I could seriously put a few of these away.

12/10/2007: Pike Stout XXXXX Extra Stout is near black to black. The pour results in about 90% dense, rocky brown foam (that never fully disappears) and 10% silky black liquid. There is a lot of lacing on the glass. A large amount of semi-sweet chocolate along with some roasted malt and hints of smoke/char and coffee. The flavor is very robust and contains lots of roasted malt, semi-sweet chocolate, and some dark, bitter chocolate toward the finish. It is also somewhat dry with a coffee and mocha-flavored finish. This beer has a medium-full body and is super smooth with a silky texture. This beer goes down amazingly easy despite the full flavor and body. Overall this is an excellent stout.

1 pint 6 fl. oz bottle (6.6% Alc./Vol., IBU 65, OG 1.073) from trade with bitbucket in November 2006. Thanks again Bob. I appreciate it! Rating #205 for this beer...

Weak dark roasted malt and charcoal aroma with licorice hints. Black, viscous, with a thin brown head, decent lacing. Dry, yet strong flavor of charcoal, smoke, and ash. Finishes more tart, malty, and with black pepper. This should be wonderful with swedish meatballs. Very nice. I’m beginning to like this brewer.
