4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 3fourths (6218) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 5, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 15, 2005 2002-2003 release. Black. Caramel/copper head. Strong caramel, licorice, and amaretto nose. Motor oil consistency. Mellow but incredibly robust smoked firewood flavor: licorice, chocolate, cafe mocha flavors. I simply can not find anything wrong with this beer. Milky and creamy finish. What an incredible stout.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MartinT (6150) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 29, 2005
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2011 (2003-04 bottle in mid-2005):
The Lure: Approchable citrusy hops and malt roastiness. Intriguing milky beads amongst the pleasant chocolatey sweetness.
The Festivities: A below-average body, perhaps a sign of its age, presents mostly roastiness. Not much sweetness to back it all up, burnt bread bitterness and dryness take most of the room. Some citrusy hops manage to participate, but all in all, this is not quite what the commercial description suggested.
Transcendence: Another suit and tie in the building. 3.3/5
Relatively young bottle from 2009:
Vanilla and soy notes seep from this Stout’s roasted malts, which also develop coffee flavors and decent bitterness. I’m still not excited by this, but I can’t say I don’t like it. 3.3/5 NB: The tap version at the brewery restaurant was more cohesive and quite chocolatey throughout. 3.5/5

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 FatPhil (5970) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - OCT 21, 2007
660ml bottle.
Very black, dark thick bready head. Oily burnt aroma. Milky and very burnt taste. Pleasant in the mouth, but a bit drying after swallowing. Quite well balanced for a very burnt stout.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Rastacouere (5900) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 5, 2005
Nice foamy light brown head covers the deep dark brown hue. Candyish and spicy nose. Rich dark malts have minty and thyme-like vapors. You can tell it’s gonna feel creamy from the nose. Surprisingly, hops are not a big factor in this one, gentle cocoa roastiness are paired with an effective and complex nut array to create a globally spicy flavour profile. As weird as it sounds, I feel this would pair well with asiatic food. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, smooth texture.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sammy (5885) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 16, 2008
Great drinkability for a hopped up stout, thanks to dnichols. Pours black with active character, above average mouthfeel. Hoppy without overbearing, and still balanced. King of hoppy stouts.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DocLock (5776) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 17, 2008
Thanks to Old Mr. Crow for this. Pours onyx with 1-finger of dark brown head. Aroma is patent malt, prunes, licorice, coffee, and chocolate. Tastes roasty, dark malty, with pruny, coffee, licorice, and dark chocolate notes, and a rich, complex palate. This is a very good stout.
