4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bitbucket (2072) - Kirkland, Washington, USA - AUG 26, 2006
Draft at Brouwer’s Cafe Hopfest ’06. Opaque black with a light tan head. Aromas of coffee and dark chocolate. Full, oily body. The taste starts lightly sweet with coffee, chocolate, burnt toast, roasted nuts, but cleans up on the bitter and slighty smokey finish.

22oz bottle from Secret Santa. Aroma: Deep, semi sweet roasted malt with big chocolate character. Coffee, anise, chalk, and some dark fruits. Smells really good. Appearance: Pours very black with no discernible highlights. Dark tan head was full and creamy with great retention. Great lacing. Flavor: Heavy roasted malt, coffee, smoke, dark fruits, and a light hop pineyness. Roasted malt and hop bitterness is fairly high. Palate: Medium-full bodied and creamy. Moderate carbonation. Overall: Good one. Nice roasted malt qualities and a great rich mouthfeel.

12/10/2007: Pike Stout XXXXX Extra Stout is near black to black. The pour results in about 90% dense, rocky brown foam (that never fully disappears) and 10% silky black liquid. There is a lot of lacing on the glass. A large amount of semi-sweet chocolate along with some roasted malt and hints of smoke/char and coffee. The flavor is very robust and contains lots of roasted malt, semi-sweet chocolate, and some dark, bitter chocolate toward the finish. It is also somewhat dry with a coffee and mocha-flavored finish. This beer has a medium-full body and is super smooth with a silky texture. This beer goes down amazingly easy despite the full flavor and body. Overall this is an excellent stout.
1 pint 6 fl. oz bottle (6.6% Alc./Vol., IBU 65, OG 1.073) from trade with bitbucket in November 2006. Thanks again Bob. I appreciate it! Rating #205 for this beer...
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 theisti (2371) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - JAN 13, 2010
Shaker pint draft at the brewpub in Seattle, Washington. Pour is opaque black perhaps a hint of dark chocolate brown. Filled pretty tall, but still a nice 1/2 inch khaki head stands out. Aroma is roasty, toasty malt balanced nicely against a bright pine hoppiness. Fresh, clean, balanced - nice. Taste is the nose with the roast, pine and overall char experience all playing together and integrating nicely. The balance is really spot on, and is beautifully accented by a dry mineral finish. Palate is medium to thin bodied, with active carbonation and the crisp dry mineral finish. Immensely drinkable and enjoyable. This nailed the roasty, hoppy, lighter bodied stout style that I really love.

Bomber. Rich black, big thick brown head that fades to a thin cap. Smells of milk chocolate and dark fruit, maybe prunes. Sharp, pleasing mouthfeel welcomes in a coffee-forward flavor with a more bitter than normal (for style) finish. Leaves me feeling like I chewed on coffee beans...in a good. A bit too much flavor profile to be a "session" beer, but amazing flavor complexity for a 7% stout.

From the 650 ml bottle with no obvious lot code or expiration date. Everything about this suggests it is something solid and firm. It pours from the heavy weight bottle an opaque brown with creamy brown head and decent lacing. The aroma is alive with smoky chocolate malt with the strength of an Imperial Stout. The mouthfeel is creamy and bold. The taste tingles with coffee, chocolate and hops and settles fine on the palate. This was a topnotch stout.

Bottle in trade from thethrone. Thanks man!
Pours black with a nice creamy tan head. Smell is dark roasted malt, coffee, a touch of burnt ashiness, some dark chocolate and and some creaminess as well. Very nice. Taste is very much along the lines of the smell with some bitter dark chocolate, burnt malt and rich dark, dry coffee flavors abound. Just a slight twinge of faint fruitiness near the end, but bitterness takes it over and lingers subtly in the end.
Very flavorful for what it is, and a solid mouthfeel and drinkability. Very nice stout.
