4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 JK (3400) - Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - SEP 2, 2007
Roasted aroma, which itself is not very impressive. The flavor however, is complex and exceptional. There is sweet malt and roasted grain. Considerable smoke. Fairly thick on the palate and undercarbonated. Quite good.

Very attractive beer in appearance, pitch black with a nice sized tan head..that fades fast, but theres always a thick lace on top.
Very nice roasty/chocolaty aroma. fresh.
Taste is quite sweet to start, then the roasty/dark coffee aspects come in to play, smooth finish, then some bitter after taste.I get some rather faint smokey hints in this beer.
good mouthfeel, quite smooth and delightful.
A good stout ,very drinkable and not too heavy.

Tasted again Nov. 24 at thewolf. Upped the numbers a little, much the same notes, with an addition of a hint of smoke in the aroma.

(bottle - 22 oz) Dark black pour with a fluffy tan head. Aroma is rich and roasty with some hints of chocolate, roasted malts, and coffee. Flavor is rich and roasty at the start with a nice coffee and chocolate balance. Finishes with a nice light bitterness from the roasted malts. Just thick enough to make it very drinkable and with the right amount of bitterness. Excellent.

UPDATED: AUG 5, 2009 Bottle... Poured black with a thick, light brown head. Roasted, wood and oak flavors with a dark chocolate presence. This was surprisingly better than I’d hope. Resinous and chalky with a nice, creamy palate. Very noticeable oak and wood flavors. A little hoppy and chocolaty. Coffee, and smoked malted finish.

Big thanks to Old_Mr_Crow for carting this to DC for me. Pure black body with a nice brown head. Great aroma, caramel, coffee, roasted nuts. Taste is very nice, slightly hot on the tounge, coffee and dark chocolate bitter. Sweet coffee overtones however are evident as is some dark fruit as in prunes. Ending is dry and sweetly-bitter. A very nice stout that I’m glad I was able to try.
