COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A full-bodied beer with deep chocolate color, velvety malt texture, and a dark-roasted flavor, with hints of smokiness and coffee. It combines the dryness of traditional Dublin-style stout with the strength and character of Imperial Stout.

UPDATED: AUG 5, 2010 Initial rating 6/24/2009. Bottle. Pours a very very dark near-black, with a dark tan head, moderate, ropey lacing. Nose is quite hoppy, plenty of pine resin and a bit of skunk. Roast malt, coffee, a bit of sweetness. Hops hide a bit of the delicacy of the stout. Palate is initially very pleasant; hops, roast malt, coffee, some malty sweetness. With time, a slight burnt character as well as a bit of metal show themselves, marring an otherwise quite nice beer. Odd, lighter than expected, and not fantastic, but I would buy it again. Re-rate August 5th, 2010. Pours reasonably opaque black, thin tan head, spotty to great lacing. Not a lovely-looking lacing, but theres lots of it dot-by-dot. Nose is milk chocolate, caramel, coffee, roast, cappuccino. Flavours run to the MASSIVE chocolate, great smoke, wonderfully integrated, rich and profound. This is the same batch as my first rating, so this is just the effect of age. This fucking rules.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a very dark brown with a nice tan head. Nose is chocolate, coffee, roasted malts. Taste is smooth and quite dry. Roasty with burnt coffee. Finished dry and bitter with more toasted malts. Overall a great stout. Complex and very well executed.

(Thanks to Vertical Bacon Strips for this world class beer!) The look : Black in color with a big brown head. The nose : Wow! Roasted coffee beans, smoke, dark chocolate, vanilla and burnt notes. Definitly some fruity hops. The taste : Dark malts and coffee, caramel and Belgian chocolate. Truly a real pleasure! The mouthfeel : Wonderful(l) body. Smooth carbonation with a perfect oily texture. The finale : Roasted and hoppy, piney notes and great coffee beans. The appreciation : An outstanding stout!

This was from a 22oz bottle purchased in Ashland, Oregon. It poured a deep black color, and left a nice tan head. Lacing was chunky and attractive in the glass. The nose was sweet molasses, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, nice roast malts, and citrus hops. Mouthfeel was thick and oily, and very smooth. Flavor is the molasses, coffee, chocolate, malts, hops and some sweet fruits kicking in. and some dark fruits. Finish was long and enjoyable with just enough piney hops to go with the coffee at the end. Wonderful brew.

Courtesy of Acertain. <P> Baker’s chocolate, coffee and roasted malts pop out in the aroma, but overall the aroma is less intense than my ideal. Poured a very deep black with a dark prown/purple tinted mocha head. Fore is full of dark roasted notes along with chooclate, plum, molasses, raisin, bourbon and even some Brown ale nuttiness. A whole lot of flavor points here. Finish is laced with cream, chocolate, low bitterness coffee and a kick of alcohol. A damn fine beer.

Jet black with rich, frothy mocha head. Big nose of coffee, chocolate malt, and sweet dark sugars. Flavor is roasty with fantastic mix of coffee and chocolate, with out an astringent finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Great stout.
