masonjer (434), Lansing, Michigan, USA Jun 24, 2008 Thanks to brewdad for giving me the chance to try this. Poured thick and black, small brown head. Smell was chocolate and bitter roast. Taste was a big bitter kick at first, then fading into rich chocolate, smoke and roast. For a normal stout, this packs some flavor. I really enjoyed this one.

Chocolate mainly in the nose and flavor, with an undesirable chalky influence. Nik925 (136), California, USA Sep 2, 2008 Strong toast flavor and nice and dry. Great cereal taste. Flavor remains all about the malt through the bitterness. Keeps its great tan head throughout. The best of the Pike ales I tried. BrewCzar (62), St Louis, Missouri, USA Sep 1, 2008 Bottle pours black with a tan lacing head. Aroma is semi-sweet with notes of chocolate and roasted malts. Taste has a distinct smoked flavor with hints of coffee, bitter chocolate, vanilla, and a very slight fruitiness.
