4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
[Unfiltered, unpasteurized, barrel-fermented. From the brewery tour]
Very cloudy yellowish/golden color. Nice dense foam on top of my small sample glass. Aroma is FRESH. Fresh yeast, fresh grassy hops. Delicious. The malt character seems to be a bit subdued by all the other complexities of this beer. Yeast character is quite dominant, but not really overpowering (or providing much, if any diacetyl.). Hop character is strong and grassy. Quite bitter. The fermentation within the barrel seems to provide some interesting character to the beer overall... kind of musty and wet. Another layer of complexity.
Overall, this beer was one of the highlights of my beer-focused trip abroad. Outstanding, overall. I’ll be lucky if I’m able to try this one again.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at Highlanders Aarhus. Pours a clear golden with a big, white head. Aroma is hoppy, pilsner malty, slight bread, slight grass. Very fresh actually. Taste is fresh up front, and then gets more malty and beaded. Slight hoppy bitterness to finish off. Mediumhigh carb and light body. Good pilsner that stays true to it's style.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap at Taphouse in Copenhagen. The real unfiltered found its way to cph. Hazy yellow white head. Dry aroma. Yeasty notes and perhaps a little bit of dough. The filtered one is much more perfumy or flowery in comparison. Flavor is yeasty malty and euro hoppy. Some sweet notes too. Filtered is cleaner and a little less yeasty. Palate is decisively softer and nicer in the unfiltered version. Somehow the unfiltered has the best overall taste to it. But both are fine specimens. As I see it the unfiltered is overrated at ratebeer , probably not the best of its kind.

FYI this beer is possible to get from bars other than the brewery bar. I got it from tap at The Rover, Göteborg.
Grass, earth, yeast, bread, herbs, flowers. Balanced beer, medium bitter and medium sweet.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Straight from the barrel (or at least that’s what it’s made to look like) during the brewery tour. Much more enjoyable than the ordinary version (though the ambience certainly played a role), I wish this was more widely sold as I’d drink more Pilsner Urquell if it was! (Different rating format as I have no proper tasting notes)

Straight from the source. I can pretend to imagine drinking this beer as a Medieval Belgian peasant.

8/VII/15 - on tap @ the beer museum (Plzen) - BB: n/a (2015-882) Thanks to Motelpogo for the beer and food!
Bit hazy orange to deep blond beer, huge creamy off-white head, very stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: yeast (top fermenting, very specific smell), brewery, wort, little metallic. MF: soft carbon, full body, smooth creamy texture. Taste: bit sweet, malty touch, fruity notes, soft bitterness, citrus. Aftertaste: bit fruity, nice bitter hops, grassy, very creamy and smooth finish. It’s really amazing how much better this beer is, unfiltered and straight from tap! So much fuller, richer, creamier, tastier. Lovely beer and should be again Czech’s number 1 beer, totally deserved! (when writing this, the n°1 beer is Matuska Stout with 18 ratings)
