Pilsner Urquell Nefiltrovaný (unfiltered) is available on the Plzensky Prazdroj tour and at Na Parkanu in Plzen. A limited number of kegs were exported to Sweden and Finland for special events. Though the beer is not kvasnicovy (yeast beer), as there is no wort or young yeast added, it is unpasteurized and unfiltered.
Unfiltered Pilsner is available in selected pubs every october. Note that this is not the same as the more widespread tankovná (tank beer) or the unpasteurized (filtered) version, both of which are found throughout Prague and Czech Republic. all of these other versions should be reviewed under the regular Pilsner Urquell entry. Additionally, the 170 year Anniversary flip-top bottles should be reviewed under the regular Pilsner Urquell entry.

[Unfiltered, unpasteurized, barrel-fermented. From the brewery tour] Very cloudy yellowish/golden color. Nice dense foam on top of my small sample glass. Aroma is FRESH. Fresh yeast, fresh grassy hops. Delicious. The malt character seems to be a bit subdued by all the other complexities of this beer. Yeast character is quite dominant, but not really overpowering (or providing much, if any diacetyl.). Hop character is strong and grassy. Quite bitter. The fermentation within the barrel seems to provide some interesting character to the beer overall... kind of musty and wet. Another layer of complexity. Overall, this beer was one of the highlights of my beer-focused trip abroad. Outstanding, overall. I’ll be lucky if I’m able to try this one again.

Wondered how the unfiltered version would go - whether it would get too heavy/filling - but it’s still fit as a fiddle, refreshing, with some lightly spicy/lightly floral hops in the nose, some clean lager yeast, and an undercurrent of bready malt. Palate is satisfying. That’s the word. Just a complete beer, each part in proper balance. Next stop: trying this in the caves under the brewery in Pilsen.

On tap Na parkánu, Pilsen, Czech Republic. Hazy golden with creamy big white head, leaving lacing. Malty aroma, very light taste. Malty sweetness, but less aroma then the filtered version. They are alike, but this one’s not better. I don’t get it. Going to the brewery tomorrow to ask them what’s the big deal.

Gravity at The Pilsner Urquell Brewery, Plzen. A hazy golden colour with a thick white head. Aroma of bready malts, grain and fresh, spicy, herbal Saaz hops. Taste of bready malts, grain, slight pepper, a little grass, subtle honey and spicy, herbal hops. Light bodied and moderate carbonation. A long, dry, herbal hop bitterness in the finish. Can taste all the high quality ingredients used. Suburb crisp bitterness in the finish. Worth the trip.

1/2 Pint on tap @Barcelona Beer Festival. Pours transparent golden with big dense white head. Both aroma and taste are fruits, caramel, and the characteristic Pilsner malt touch. Finish is dry with moderate bitterness. Light/medium body, perfect carbonation. Definitely the best Pilsner I’ve had so far.

On tap at Bar Maquila. Waiting for lunch with Pedro & Miguel. More pleasant than the bottled version, without any artificial taste. However, it neither is something specially memorable
