4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is still my favorite Bohemian style pilsner as of 6-5-11. It pours golden yellow with a nice and foamy yellow head. It smells of citrus, malt, hops, and floral. It tastes fresh with a good balance of bitterness and malt sweetness. The hop bitterness is the primary flavor and is very refreshing. This is the oldest pilsner in the world and pilsner is named for the town, Pilz, it is brewed in. I love this beer alot. It is smooth and thin on the palaette and is good on a hot day or to complement good foods.

This is really the greatest example of the style, crisp, grassy, straw, hay, packed with flavour, hazy golden colour, white head. Exquisite.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample at En Öl- & Whiskymässa, Gothenburg, April, 2015. Three 25 litres kegs were brought along from the brewery, this was sampled from the first one opened. Clear deeep golden, soft, thick white four finger foam dissipating slowly leaving lots of lacings. Amazingly present aroma, with a wall of grass, floral, bready, slightly buttery feel. Taste is medium bitter, superb balance with bready, malty hints along with floral and grassy notes, velvet mouthfeel, slight bitterness in the finish. I may be a bit over exaggerated here, but still, this IS brutally tasty with the most delightful mouthfeel and high drinkability.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tap. Little hazy golden body, medium white head. Aroma of malts and yeast, low intensity. Taste of malts, aftertaste is bitter, hoppy. Little sweet, medium bitterness. An average body and carbonation.
What kind of madness is around here? This is really an average pilsener, I can’t understand this 4,x ratings. Almost every Czech microbrewery beer (and even many of regional commercial) is few steps above this one. This is simple “not bad” category. It looks like people are ratings this trademark, old legend, not the beer (I believe any other with the same taste, aroma, etc. will be around 3).

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draught at the Pivovarská šenkovna, Ústí n. L. (easter edition 2015). Little cloudy, golden colored beer. Aroma of malt, bread, some sweet fruity or flowery tones. Medium bodied, malty flavor, bready, moderately hopped.
Not bad, still it is average beer. Definitely not the best Czech pilsener.

Has a slight buttery popcorn diacetyl character in the nose. But the flavors are crackery malts with a slightly grassy hoppiness imparting medium bitterness for style; not as tame as more generic pils, less exotic than the Italian exemplars of style. Quite easy to drink and tasty to boot. Meets my expectations and I had to travel all the way to a World of Beer to try it rather than going back to my Grandmother’s homeland.
