Pilsner Urquell Nefiltrovaný (unfiltered) is available on the Plzensky Prazdroj tour and at Na Parkanu in Plzen. A limited number of kegs were exported to Sweden and Finland for special events. Though the beer is not kvasnicovy (yeast beer), as there is no wort or young yeast added, it is unpasteurized and unfiltered.
Unfiltered Pilsner is available in selected pubs every october. Note that this is not the same as the more widespread tankovná (tank beer) or the unpasteurized (filtered) version, both of which are found throughout Prague and Czech Republic. all of these other versions should be reviewed under the regular Pilsner Urquell entry. Additionally, the 170 year Anniversary flip-top bottles should be reviewed under the regular Pilsner Urquell entry.

UPDATED: JUL 4, 2009 Entered to celebrate my rating number 10,900 with a top 50 beer. Draft from the wooden barrel in the callars of the brewery. A hazy light golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of straw, malt, and citrusy notes of hops as well as hints of wood. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of straw and citrus as well as lighter notes of wood and sulpur. I am amazed how great this beer is - I had no idea a pilsner could be this great.

The unfiltered version from steel tank: An unclear dark golden beer with a huge off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt, straw, hops, and grass. The flavor is sweetwith notes of grass, malt, and caramel, leading to a dry finish. [8/3/8/4/15=3.8]

Draught at the brewery (from oak) Cloudy golden, small creamy head. Evident grassy saaz hop aroma. Dry and clean. I seem to sense a bit of oakiness in the crisp malt character. Light-medium bodied. Feels alive and fresh and finishes with lingering bitter finish. One of the top beers of the style!

The unfiltered one at Na Parkanu is understandably similar. If something it felt a bit more grainy, and I couldn’t detect the very vague oakiness I thought I sensed at the brewery tour.

Small wood cask at Bishop’s Arms, Malmö, Gustav Adolf Torg
Unfiltered. Unpastorized.

The last lucky glass of the wooden cask. Cloudy blond color with no real head, just a small foam collar. Very nice aroma, dry grass, malt, light rubber, light feet. Expectedly, it’s kinda low carbonated, good malt flavor, breadish character, grassy hops with a hay accent, fairly bitter. Penalized a bit by the lack of carbonation and Engish-cask temperature.
Excellent beer (but if you ask me, I prefer some German Hallertau Helles).

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2008 On tap at Na Parkanu. I had been travelling all day from London to Plzen and I had humped my luggage halfway across town to my hotel, before heading down here to meet up with the rest of the RBESG. I hadn’t had a drink all day and it had been very hot by English standards. So by 19.30 I was gasping for a cold beer. Which makes this probably explains partly why I liked it so much. Slightly cloudy gold, thick off white head. Earthy aroma. Yeast. This is gorgeous. Some bitterness/yeast/earthy. So refreshing. Almost tastes as if it was dryhopped with earthy hops. That is awesome. 4.3/5.0. Re-rate 2 days later on the Saturday evening with Chris_o and Ruth. I still absolutely loved this, but I knocked 0.1 off now that I had time to reflect more on it. Still the best Czech beer I had over the weekend and the only one I conciously went back for. We had a filtered pint inbetween 2 unfiltered and the difference really was startling. The unfiltered is just so much better. Re-rate-unfiltered from the brewery from the wood. Hazy gold, thin lasting white head, slightly woody yeast, hoppy aroma. I think maybe more intense than the Na Parkanu version, bit more uncultured, more hoppy, but I prefer the Na Parkanu more 3.8/5.0
