Very soft body for a Pilsner, and very flowery nose. The sulfur is supposed to be there, but when you try it on tap, its less prevalent. You can’t say you like beer if you don’t like Pilsner Urquell. thebaron99 (110), Royston Park SA, Australia

Bring it on, try it in a factory glass, even better. Encore Admiral (524), Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, USA

A Czech friend of mine says the version we get in the US is hoppier than the original; I find this difficult to imagine, as the hops are so subtle in the first place that they aren’t the main focus of this brew. For some reason, the lunkheads at the pub I frequent most list this in the menu as being German. May the ghost of Josef Svejk haunt them until such time as they repent this error... Rerate 9/5/02: I had one of these from the bottle and it was even better than I remembered; like sticking my head into a sack of Saaz hops, all grassy and herby. I take back what I said about subtle hops, but won’t change the rating otherwise. jreddish99 (5), Laurel, Maryland, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 1, 2001 motelpogo (4399), Plzen, Czech Republic

Even the American bottled version isn’t bad. Nothing compares to a fresh Urquell in Praha. Fantastic! Ringo (959), Loveland, Colorado, USA

But usually it is not up to par, this beer is notorious for not travelling well, and this is well deserved as you will generally get a mediocre if not downright bad bottle. But if you get a good one it is a great pilsener. Must be great at the source... spydog (74), Tempe, USA

No skunk smell that I have gotten from bottles. Amazing mouthfeel from a 4.4% beer. Maltiness that clings to the tongue, which is then quickly replaced by a dry bitterness from the hops. Finishes crisp and clean. The gold standard for it’s style
