The color is quite brown without being complete opaque, but it has no head; additionally, the aroma is very subtle with a slight hint of walnut. The visual and olfactory elements of the beer aren’t anything to rave about, but the taste is mildly sweet, slightly umami, and a touch sour, making a pleasurable taste that isn’t completely typical of other wheat ales. Also, the palate complements the taste with its medium body, soft carbonation, slick texture, and abrupt finish, which makes the beer crisp.

It poured a dark brown color with a small off-white head. The aroma was of yeasty banana and some soapy notes. The taste was wheaty and lightly sweet with the normal banana flavors and a stronger than usual bitterness aftertaste. Nice.

Pretty simplistic and easy to drink beer. Wheat flavor is nicely complimented by a soft walnut flavor. Slightly acidic aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the Flying Saucer in Little Rock, AR. Pours a cloudy, deep brown colored body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is fairly nutty and grainy with a light wheat, earth, and hint of fruit. Flavor is similar. Grainy and lightly sweetened up front with a good amount of nuts. Some wheat in the middle with a light fruitiness before this finishes clean and somewhat dry from a light earthy bitterness. Medium length aftertaste following a light body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty simple, but easy drinking beer. Nothing special, but enjoyable.

Pint on tap at FS. Solid seasonal, overall. Medium-brown color with no head or lacing, Slightly nutty aroma, wheaty. Well-balanced, not overwhelmingly walnut-y, but a nice compromise. Clean aftertaste. Tastes like more of a quality selection than other beers of this ilk. I’d definitely order again.

Poured into a pint glass. Dark, opaque brown color with minimal head. It smells like walnuts, if only faintly. A little candy smell comes through too. Wow. It tastes exactly like root beer for the first 2 seconds. Then the flavor "waters" out a bit. Some dry bitterness at the end. Smooth texture, medium body and moderate carbonation. If nothing else it is interesting with the walnuts and the taste of root beer.

Brown and clear with a thin white head. Black walnut evident in arona. Great roasty nut flavor.

Sample from beerfest. Poured a darker color with an off white head. Head went rather quick. This was by far the worst of the Piney River beers. Bread, yeast and mild earthy flavors in the nose. Flavor was mild nuttiness. Not a whole lot to this beer. Very thin and weaker. Good idea and concept just didn’t add up. Below average beer.

Very creative beer. WONDERFUL aroma of wheat and black walnuts. Nice malty flavor. Pours a cloudy dark amber, nice and refreshing,
