Pours deep brown with a soapy tan head. The aroma has rich nuttiness, toasted wheat, some bananas and phenolic spice. It has a medium smooth body with mild sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with very smooth wheat, nuttiness from the walnuts, minerals and spice. The finish has some vanilla creaminess and more spices. Pretty good.

Sampled at GABF In the tasting glass this was hazy muddy brown and a tan head that lasts. The nose is toasted malts, and I do get the walnut. Medium in body. Flavor is walnuts and malts. OK

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Tasted on draft at 2015 St. Louis Microfest in a willi becher glass. It poured a hazy light brown colour with thin but persistent white foam. Low aroma but much bigger flavours. Grainy, bready, nutty (from actual black walnuts in the mash!). Light body, mineral water essence, mildly tannic and tart, lending a refreshingly dry finish. Deliciously different, memorable. A near-perfect beer.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pour is a iced tea lookalike with a small white head. Aroma is some sweet malt and that’s about it. Flavor is a little better with more of the walnut coming thru. This was ok. I was hoping it would have been better. The walnut needs to stand out more.

Piney River Black Walnut Wheat has an extremely thick, beige, fizzy, head, a mostly clear, bubbly, brown appearance, and minimal lacing left on the glass. The aroma is full and of sweet bread crust, some brown bread yeast, and possibly walnut. Taste is of sweet, syrupy malt, brown bread, maybe some nut, and no real bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium and a touch slick, and Piney River Black Walnut Wheat finishes on the wet side and highly drinkable. RJT

16 oz. can picked up at RBSG. Pours a clear dark tea color with a small off-white ring for a head. Notes of toasted malts, black walnuts, brown sugar, tea, tobacco, cardboard, and earth. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a very mellow tea-like mouthfeel. A little thin and watery, but not bad. Has potential.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Lightly carbonated, dark (walnut, like) color with minimal head. Taste fine but left with the feeling that it would be much better.
