Poured into a pint glass. Dark, opaque brown color with minimal head. It smells like walnuts, if only faintly. A little candy smell comes through too. Wow. It tastes exactly like root beer for the first 2 seconds. Then the flavor "waters" out a bit. Some dry bitterness at the end. Smooth texture, medium body and moderate carbonation. If nothing else it is interesting with the walnuts and the taste of root beer.

Can from Whole Foods in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dark copper body with a thin, khaki hued head. Aromas include malts, earth, nuts. Sweet with a thin body. Mediocre.

2016 can. Pours an actual clear black walnut color with little head and lacing. Aroma is clean dark berry and nutty. Flavor is toasty with walnut and a slight bit of grape skin. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Shamrocks. Served a dark brown color with a nice tan head. Aroma of Malt, wheat and nuts. Taste of malt, nice nuttiness and grain. Mild bitterness and a clean finish. Moderate body, smooth and quite flavorful. Enjoyable beer.

Pours deep brown with a soapy tan head. The aroma has rich nuttiness, toasted wheat, some bananas and phenolic spice. It has a medium smooth body with mild sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with very smooth wheat, nuttiness from the walnuts, minerals and spice. The finish has some vanilla creaminess and more spices. Pretty good.

Sampled at GABF In the tasting glass this was hazy muddy brown and a tan head that lasts. The nose is toasted malts, and I do get the walnut. Medium in body. Flavor is walnuts and malts. OK

Tasted on draft at 2015 St. Louis Microfest in a willi becher glass. It poured a hazy light brown colour with thin but persistent white foam. Low aroma but much bigger flavours. Grainy, bready, nutty (from actual black walnuts in the mash!). Light body, mineral water essence, mildly tannic and tart, lending a refreshingly dry finish. Deliciously different, memorable. A near-perfect beer.

Pour is a iced tea lookalike with a small white head. Aroma is some sweet malt and that’s about it. Flavor is a little better with more of the walnut coming thru. This was ok. I was hoping it would have been better. The walnut needs to stand out more.

Can. Hazy brown color, tan head. Aroma of lightly toasted banana bread with nuts in it. Taste is sweet, malty, nutty. Interesting.
