Dense black beard, brilliant plumage, reverberating gobble--Old Tom is notorious for haunting the Ozark hills. Heís a prize gobbler with the wisdom to stay just out of reach. Our handcrafted porter is also memorable, but itís one Old Tom that wonít get away. Color 21.2 SRM

16 oz. can from RBSG. A little light-colored for the style, kind of a browned, burnt orange with a small off-white head that laces the glass. Toasted malts, toffee, nuts, earth, and hay. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a toasty mouthfeel. A little light in color for the style, and itís a bit subdued, but itís not bad.

I really enjoyed a black IPA from this same brewer but this porter is not really doing it for me. It is a very nice looking beer--garnet brown, long lasting head and tons of lace--but that is really the only thing about it that is better than average. Well, the nose is OK. It is mild with some mild toffee malts and a subdued roast character. The taste though is kind of ashy and medicinal to me. It is medium bodied w/ mild carbonation and pretty flavorful overall but something is just a bit off. This isnít ruining my day or anything but I donít think I am likely to buy one of these again.

Can and served in nonic pint: Beautiful color of mahogany and amber with fading head and spotty lace. Moderately toasty, bready, nutty with a splash of molasses and char. It is your run of the mill Porter and there is nothing wrong with that.

Poured from a 16oz can. Aroma is fairly nutty with a moderate amount of roast and light chocolate. A really nice, malty character dominated by nuts and roast with some toasted bread. Pours a clear brown with a touch of burnt amber and a thin tan head with light retention. Light lacing and small legs. Flavor is also very malt forward with a lot of nuttiness, toasted bread and some medium light roast. Faint chocolate notes and light caramel character. Light bitterness and faint hop character. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a really nice brown porter with a really great malt character. One of the better brown porters on the American market. Not as much chocolate character as I would expect and it could use a touch more English hop notes.

Can at 28 Springs thanks to Casey. Pours dark brown with a thin head slight roasted barley and sweet malt flavor. Nice clean flavor. Good beer.

Sampled at esbls. Dark brown with red. An ashtray aroma is smoky. A flat feel. Smoke, big malts light fruit. Not enough going on here.

Bottle. Deep orange-red body, thin-medium clumping head. Light woody nose, acidic and thin with cocoa powder notes. Thin body, woody with chocolate/cocoa. Weak and unchallenging.

Aroma of burnt caramel and malt. Pours a dark brown with an mostly lasting tan head and minimal lacing. The taste is a nice combination of sweet vs. bitter. Sweet fruit initially followed by roasted malt and a nice bitter finish. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, I liked this porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The color of this beer is gorgeous, for it is a deep brownish red with a small white head. Also, the aroma of the beer is interesting as a combination of caramel and roasted chocolate. The taste and palate make for a intriguing combination: there is a sweet yet bitter taste of a stout mixed with a light body, thin texture, abrupt finish, and soft carbonation.
