Dense black beard, brilliant plumage, reverberating gobble--Old Tom is notorious for haunting the Ozark hills. He’s a prize gobbler with the wisdom to stay just out of reach. Our handcrafted porter is also memorable, but it’s one Old Tom that won’t get away. Color 21.2 SRM

Pours a nice, dark, brownish black, with good-sized, lasting head. Aroma of chocolate coffee, roasted malt. Flavor includes all of these, with some leather and dark fruits. A bit over-carbonated/fizzy for palate. This could use a bit more work.

Pours chestnut with three fingers of tan head and good lacing. Aroma has some mild roastiness and brown bread. Taste follows the nose with some mild roastiness, dark bread and woody hops. Finishes dry with coffee roastiness. Medium bodied, fairly creamy, thins out some as it warms. A soild, easy-drinking Porter.

2015 can. Pours a medium translucent brown with a fairly thick light tan head. Aroma is a nice sweet, toasty malt with a bit of milk chocolate. Taste pretty much follows the nose with a little bit of a lactose taste and toasty bitterness at the end. Light medium mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Could be better. Could have a smoother, creamier, or thicker body. Flavors are all there, but the body just leaves it without a leg to stand on. Decent beer.

Can @ home. Looks more like a dark amber ale to me...khaki head. Nose is kind of a milk chocolate and maple syrup aroma. Lots of toffee and cocoa powder. Lightly hoppy. Flavor is kind of bland, but there is a heavy dose of toffee and caramel. Chocolate, dark fruit, and a toasted biscuit malt note. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish.

16 oz. can from RBSG. A little light-colored for the style, kind of a browned, burnt orange with a small off-white head that laces the glass. Toasted malts, toffee, nuts, earth, and hay. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a toasty mouthfeel. A little light in color for the style, and it’s a bit subdued, but it’s not bad.

I really enjoyed a black IPA from this same brewer but this porter is not really doing it for me. It is a very nice looking beer--garnet brown, long lasting head and tons of lace--but that is really the only thing about it that is better than average. Well, the nose is OK. It is mild with some mild toffee malts and a subdued roast character. The taste though is kind of ashy and medicinal to me. It is medium bodied w/ mild carbonation and pretty flavorful overall but something is just a bit off. This isn’t ruining my day or anything but I don’t think I am likely to buy one of these again.
