A wonder bouquet of hops will start out on the palate then transition to a welcoming calmness from the smooth chocolate malts that will linger taking away from an over the top hoppy bitterness. Enjoy!

Black Hops does the cascadian dark ale thing justice, but leans closer to overhopped stout than roasty IPA. Pouts dark brown with a lacy head. Lots of chocolate malt in both aroma and flavor. The hops here are earthy and sneak up to sucker punch you in the tail.

Sold mix of ipa hoppiness and stout roastedness. A slight coffee flavor up front with a slight citrus after taste. Very smooth and easy to drink.

Tap at proof. Black pour with strong tan head that lasts. Roasty bitter aroma with hints of chocolate. Kind of reminds me of a chocolate chip cookie. Taste is chocolatey with lots of carbonation. A couples years ago this would be a stout. Good beer but I don’t see it as a black IPA.

Draft… RBWG 2013… Clear brown ale with a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. The nose offers a mingling of charcoal, espresso, dark chocolate, licorice, bong water, pine and pot resins with an undertone of pink grapefruit. Medium-bodied and silky-smooth with tingly carbonation. The flavor presents unsweetened cocoa, bong water, charcoal, bitter pine and grapefruit rind. Bitter, piney, coarse finish. Black IPA is a style of beer I loathe, but this one is very drinkable.

Quite a nice American Black Ale, wake up number 37 .. . medium roast level .. . touch of green hops .. . slick mouth .. . a good beer, i’d be happy with a pint or two .. . . lesbian ham.

Pours a translucent black brown on tap with thin ring of lacy head that sticks lightly. Aroma of piney resinous hops, roasted barley, and chocolate malt. Taste follows, but the roasted malt falls off and allows for more hops to come through. Bitter finish and a decent sticky mouth. Pretty good, perhaps one of their better besides the ghost pepper stuff.

Tap at Brewer’s Pizza for RBWG. This is now the 15th beer named Black Hops after I assume the inferior game to Halo. Clear, deep amber pour. Danker nose, some spruce, coffee. Taste is spruce, tea, sweet chocolate. Mild spicy finish. Palate is not as thin as their other offerings, has some actual body.

Tap at the brewpub, RBWG 2013. Pours clear brown with a fine, frothy white head. Lots of floral, piney hops in the nose. Medium sweet flavor, some lightly roasted malts, more juicy pine, grapefruit. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Fairly resinous to finish with juicy grapefruit, orange, pine, hints of licorice. Good one.
