3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 lisagirl (151) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - APR 2, 2013
very sticky fruits in here, which is nice, but the hop bitterness in this one seems a bit off. but otherwise the deep caramels are quite nice, along with that stickiness.

Flavoursome & full with just enough bite to make a statement without overpowering. Almond notes with a lemon undercurrent. Very enjoyable.

Aromas of sweet malt and roasted nuts/chestnut. Loads of sweet thick caramel malt character. Very rich, one for the armchair

Big beer from Mr Pink. Good deep colour and this shows through in the beer. Little raisony in the palate

Definitely not my style. Shocking taste, too bitter and floral, a seemingly unnecessary abuse of hops. The beer seems to have its legion of admirers though, by the scores below. I was actually eager to love it, but I must say that I found it disappointing, to say the least.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 highlandlad (1376) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - MAY 7, 2012
A sweet English strong ale from NZ’s South Island. A fair nightcap but too sticky for more than one for this taster. Burnished copper, thick head. Aroma of dark figgy fruits, blackberry jam, toffee and a pinch of nose-prickling all-spice. The mouthfeel was the best thing about this - thick and filling. Toffee malts on the tongue and a late spicy burn in the swallow. Some metallic English hops in there. Lots of fruity esters. (330ml bottle)
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beer4eternity (198) - Tauranga, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 9, 2011
330ml bottle. Aroma: is wonderful and complex; smooth chocolate malt, very fruity and spicy; overripe fruit, raisins, prunes, some liquorice, caramel, toffee, borderline mouldy orange, leather at times a little cardboard. A little Christmas cake like. Appearance: hazy mahogany hue with small creamy beige lasting head and good lacing. Taste: aromas translate well into the taste. Very tasty, sweet with a long bitter finish and a twang of salinity and a hint of sourness. Palate: medium to full body, soft carbonation, lightly syrupy texture, pepperiness in the finish. Overall: a very well crafted ale, altogether quite enjoyable.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 davidm (1777) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - SEP 4, 2010
Bottle 330ml. Great beer. Aromas of grass, caramel, and alcohol. Taste is bitter, and long lasting. Palate is syrupy, and full bodied. Brown, with a long-lasting frothy head.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 hawthorne00 (1861) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - AUG 22, 2010
Dark brown with a creamy beige head that fades but laces well. Aroma of caramel and nuts with an intriguing new/old world hop note: citrus and pine are there, but so are flowers and spices. Also a hint of basement. The spices dominate the taste at first and the bitterness masks the sweetness of the caramel and fruit. A little alcohol burn in a bitter finish that has some citrus as well as lots of pepper. There’s no bleeding date on the bottle but this would have been better in another six months (when it more obviously be an ESA).

330ml bottle. Dark brown and muddy with a skinny light beige head that doesn’t hang around. Fruity and spicy aromas are pleasant without being overpowering. Dry on the palate with a strong flavour and long lasting bitterness. Flavour lingers as the alcohol kicks in.
