Visiting Münster so had to check out the local classic. We got to the hotel, dropped our stuff, and walked straight to the brewpub. Pretty quiet Saturday afternoon in March, cold and rainy outside, perfect for a German feast accompanied by great beer. Started out with the classic alt. Loved it. Somewhere between a Dusseldorf alt and Kolsch, and with that characteristic tanginess. Really nice beer - super easy-drinking and unique.

[2/19/15] Bottle at the hotel in San Diego. Clear golden. Yeasty aroma with grape jam and lots of cardboard oxidation. Sweet flavor, fruity, yeasty, with lots of cardboard. Rather light-bodied. No freshness date, but it seems way too old.

Bottle into pint glass. Pours a cloudy golden colour with a white head. Aroma is bready malt with a slightly citrusy hop character. Taste is bready malt with a little sweetness and slightly tart yeastyness. Good beer.

shared with Konfuzzi @ bottling of the Iden; bready malts and a hint of citrus in the nose, taste starts with caramel, ends with citrus; refreshing, light, well-balanced.

Bottle. Interesting but not particularly satisfying balance of sweet malts and hoppy bitternerss. Unfortunately, the two combine to make for a blandish beer.

0,5l Flasche. Hellgelbes Bier mit kleiner Schaumkrone. Riecht malzig, grasig. Der Geschmack überrascht durch eine angenehme Malzkomponente, angenehmes Hopfenaroma. Weich und süffig!

Appearance: Hazy pale orange, some fizzy white and short lived head.
Aroma: Bread, yeast. Some fruit?
Taste: Slight sourness, some citrus fruit. Yeast. Underwhelmed, and not what you expect from an "Alt".
Bought: Total Wine & More (Sterling), 500 ml, $3.99
Info: 2/1-2015, 233/300

500 ml bottle. Pale gold color. Large rocky white head. Grainy malt aroma. Soft, tart malt flavor with notes of white bread and floral hops. Dry mouthfeel. Slightly citrusy with an extremely dry finish. Very light in body and flavor. Good none the less.

This beer caught me by surprise. I was expecting something traditionally malty and slightly sweet like most German beers. Instead, it is a dry, slightly sour, very grassy tasting beverege that approaches Orval in its complexity. Don’t drink this beer to dream fondly of the Oktoberfests of your youth. Drink it to remind yourself how surprising and delicious malt, yeast, hops and water can be. This beer is incredible.

Bottle from a supermarket in Werl, Northrhine-Westphalia, Germany!
Pours hazy pale yellow with high white head. Smell has sourish yeast and sweet grain. Starts sour yeasty, fermented grainy and floral hoppy. Middle part is also very sourish with lots of pale malts and bready notes. Finish is very yeasty, fermentes, with some grassy-bitter hop notes.
