Bottle. Pours gold, no head. Nose of lemon, some floral and malt in the background. Flavour is also mainly lemon, maybe other stuff but yeah the infection’s sourness lingered the rest of the night in my mouth, no way was this the flavour they were going for. Drinkable but glad it wasn’t a larger bottle.

EDIT: When hops cause a lemon flavour it’s crisp lemon rind with a clean finish. When bacteria causes it, it sharpens in the finish. Looking through the reviews here, this beer looks really interesting as a traditional German ale but they’ve definitely got consistency problems... when a quarter of reviewers list sourness as the main characteristic, and three quarters -- even including top reviewers -- don’t even mention it, there’s something going on.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2013 Bottle 0. 5l. I hope that this bottle was infected. Best before 05/2014. Horrible and disgusting aroma I can’t describe. Sweet, boozy, sour. Taste is sweet, corn, like the cheapest lager you can imagine. No roasted flavour, no hops, no bitterness. Nothing, only sweetness. Colour is clear golden with no head. Must try again but not in the near future.

My first foray into this style, so I am judging across styles and not just this one in particular. The base malt reminds me a lot of an ESB, but the flavor is imbued with a non-bitter zing at the end. Not too shabby overall. B- ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500 ml bottle sold as “Pinkus Original Obergärig Alt” bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty during the store’s Oktoberfest promotion.

Translucent light golden honey colour; One finger head and soapy foam which fades in 40 seconds; Very little lacing and fizzy carbonation; Quite decent sweet aroma of malt, with light doses of honey, raisins, dark fruits, and hint of grass; Very light sweet taste of light lager malt, with hint of tartness, bread, light biscuit, light wet cardboard, light lemon and mild grass; Light body, slick palate; Taste profile is un-Alt-like, dominated by light lager malt taste, shades of sourness, and not much roastyness. Dry and bready, with wet cardboard being sneaked in. What the f... Not much hoppiness either, just hint of grassy nose, shades of lemon and mild grass taste, and very low and empty bitterness for a hollow, slightly sour finish; Dry after taste; Quite easy but weird to mouth.

Comments: The label states this is an organic Alt, but the session points otherwise - golden colour, some basic good dark fruit nose, no roastiness - more like a Helles with bits of Alt elements being thrown in. Being organic is not an excuse. Drain pours after half a glass.

500ml bottle from Bierzwerg@home. Clear and folden appearance with minimal white head. Aroma has light herbal and braady notes. Taste is lightly bitter. Palate is quite light with fizzy carbonation. Way different from other Altbiers I’ve had in the past. More like a Pils or Hellea with little "Altish" added.

Bottle from McTapps - thank you, Sabine! Pours clear pale golden with stable white head. Clear aroma of malt and yeast with notes of hops. Bitter, hoppy flavour with pronounced estery notes. Bitter, estery finish with sparse notes of paper. Soury touches. OK but quite different from other Altbiers I have had.
