Not so long ago there was a war, an IBU war, in which breweries raced to brew a beer with more bitterness than anyone could imagine. During this dark period, IPAs seemed required to be bitter by definition, some people liked them, some people did not. Who knows the winner of that war, but thankfully it is finally over and it’s time for the new school of IPAs! These IPAs focus on the flavors and aromas of that glorious green cone… the hop…and not on melting your face with bitterness for no real reason. Man O’ War is a new school IPA! Bright tropical fruits and juicy citrus in the nose are followed by a mouthful of resiny citrus and just a wee bit of clean bitterness to balance it all out. Much less bitter than many IPAs out there, yet so much hoppier.

jars and jars . .. poured from the tap a medium amber .. . solid head, strong lacing .. . resin and straw, mild malt .. . easy drinker here .. . . I bet that puff of air in your eye test at the eye doctor’s office doesn’t even do anything. I bet they’re just a bunch of assholes.

Thick bright white head that leaves a nice lacing. Smells very citrusy, orange and grapefruit with a grassy or piney edge. Delicious. Taste is much more resiny pine and grass clippings than anything else. The bitterness seems a bit coarse.

(Draught) clear medium gold, bit hazy, creamy/soapy offwhite bubbles. Nose is tropical, a bit dank, sweet orange peel, slightest bit of biscuit, very clean. Taste is even better, spicy, lightly bitter and very balanced, orange peel, citrus fruit, crackers. Palate is nice also, bitter in a nice way without seeming bitter for the sake of it, perhaps force carbonation is one of the only complaints I can muster. Very good.
