4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Treebs (733) - , Illinois, USA - OCT 20, 201222 oz. waxed bomber served in a Deschutes snifter. Batch #41
A: Pours an opaque black color with a two finger tan head forming on the pour. It has great retention throughout the whole glass. It recedes very slowly down to heft cap that leaves sticky and soapy lace down the glass.
S: Dark chocolate, some sweet booze and fruity yeast with a nice roasted malt presence as well. Another layer of coffee bean is present giving it another layer.
T: Sweet boozy notes with a touch of fruity yeast and some milk chocolate. Great roasted coffee bean with a light toffee malt presence.
M: Medium + bodied with a slick and oily mouthfeel. Medium to low carb really gives it that nice stout feel with a touch of dryness on the finish.
O: The booze sweet in nature with some slightly fruity yeast, but there is enough complimentary roasted flavors along with an unsweetened chocolate to balance it out. I’d love to see this with a year or two on it and I’m glad I’ve got some for the cellar.

Bottle, batch 41, 05/18/2013. Pours dark brown, nearly black, dense frothy light tan head, a coat of lacing left behind as it settles slowly. Aroma is cocoa powder, chocolate brownie, bit of sweet dark fruit and caramel, mild hoppy roasted notes. Taste is rich creamy chocolate with nice roast component, good dose of coffee, light citrus hops and bitterness to offset the sweetness. Full, sharp palate. Really pretty nice imperial stout but with more pronounced hop profile than average.

22 ounce bottle. Malt and smoked nuts in the aroma. Fairly transparent for an imperial stout but still a dark brown tint with light tan head. Taste is a little bitter, coffee unsweetened, toast, some alcohol heat. Palate is medium bodied and sizzling with carbonation. Overall, it was an unusually light bodied and drinkable stout, but there wasn’t a specific component that jumped out for me. I can see why this is a good base for Pipeworks to build off of when they craft their specialty imperial stouts.

Bottle. Poured black color with a moderate creamy light brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Medium to heavy toasted sweet caramel malt, coffee with a small alcohol aroma. Full body with a creamy smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted sweet coffee flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.

22oz bottle, shared by tmoney99. Back of the bottle says "#100". Dark brown color, light comes through around the sides. Medium brown head. Solid scatter of lace. Nice roasty coffee in the nose. Nice long roasty lightly chocolately aftertaste. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. Good chewiness. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Kind of a light herbal, earthy hop note, I like that a lot. Great imperial stout. Perfect amount of light black IPA -esque hoppiness.

Bomber to snifter (thanks tmoney99). Looks good; a semi-opaque cola with thin off-white lacing. Smells solid; dark malt, chocolate, and roast. Tastes like it smells, only better, with a nice, creamy mouthfeel. Good stuff!
