3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. This pours out a deep brown color with a pencil thin head developing on top before vanishing away. Heavy cinnamon spice aroma that’s followed by clove, toasted almond, and vanilla extract. The flavors, almost mirroring the scent, showcase some spicy cinnamon and clove flavors; sweet vanilla, toasted marshmellow, and backed by a soft malt character. Chocolate creeps in towards the finish but I expected that to be more prominent than it is. Overall not too bad but the dominant spice gets overbearing rather quickly. I do think this was very well executed. Just the fall spiced stuff isn’t entirely my thing and I was kind of hoping this had more chocolate Porter in it.

Pretty good. Taste of chocolate and malt immediately explodes in your mouth. Smells of malt, a little bot of cinnamon. Some coffee in there somewhere.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle. Pours a nice dark brown/black with a cream tan head. Aroma of mild tubery flesh, cinnamon, vanilla, cloves. Mild chocolate and roast notes. Flavor is dark chocolate, bitter bakers chocolate, with cinnamon, vanilla, and cloves. Some sweetness imparted by the spice. Medium bodied, nice carbonation. Finishes spicy and sweet. I think the imperial porter is the ideal showcase for this theory of a beer. Quite nice. One of the better styled "Autumn spiced" beers I’ve ever had.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle and served in one of my PW snifters: Pours a deep murky brown, near opaque with a rocky fading head. The aroma has moderate vapours of cinnamon, clove and vanilla bean along with some toasted bread. Smell like a liquid dinner. Hint of smoke and earthiness as well on the nose. The taste is more of the same with pronounced spices and root to earth backbone. I honestly expected more nutty and/or cocoa notes from this offering, too similar to the Nisperos de Batata. It fits the season and is better than most "pumpkin" spiced ales out nowadays. Unique mouth feel slick but not overly heavy. Ultimately I wish this less sweet, drier and more porter-ish.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
You better like food... Mainly sweet potatoes. This beer pours dark with a thin creamy head smells like sweet brown sugar and tastes like a sweet potato after baking it for three hours at a low temp. Great beer that is different!

I think this version is similiar to the old but better. Thecocoa in’t too pervasive but rather it is the vanilla that is cranked up.
