COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pillow fight! Occasionally even ninjas and unicorns must take a break from their epic battle for some good old-fashioned fun. Pipeworks has borrowed some fancy flannel pajamas from Begyle to bring you an Imperial Black IPA. Truth: this beer is loaded with El Dorado and Centennial hops, so don’t you dare let this bottle spin away from you.

Bottle at home. Almost black pour with a big, light brown head. Aroma of piney hops and roasted malt. Medium bitter, dry, long finish. Taste is chocolate, pine, resin, candied sugar. Tastes great and a very pleasant beer to drink.

Bottle serving. Great combo of hops and malt scents with some pine on the end Pours black with a thick tan foam with nice rings of lacing that holds shape. The taste is very good with malts and a hoppy bitter on the end and a slight tinge of 9.5 abv which leaves a nice continued flavoring on the palate. I will be buying this beer again. Great colab between Pipeworks & Begyle breweries!

Bottle and served in PW snifter:pours a deep brown near opaque with an initial firm frothy head but not much lace. the aroma as heavy roast and coffee notes along with some tobacco, leather and pine needles. Restrained juicy hops and a bit of booze as well. The taste to be honest is a lot more restrained than I expected it to be. Heavy on the roast and coffee notes but a tad sweet which is a no-no for Black IPAs but somewhat excusable for Black DIPAs in my book. Leathery and tobacco earthiness helps a lot... to be honest a second time, this comes off as a hoppy stout even moreso than does the Close Encounter which is suppose to be a hoppy American Stout... all that said I actually still hedonistically enjoy this. The mouth feel is a tad ashy and oily which is a strange combination that takes some getting used to.

A classic example of whole more that the sum of parts beer for it seems to be less hop forward that I expected but overall enjoyment far greater than I expected.

22 oz. bomber. Pours a rich, deep black/brown, with a nice, full tan head on top. Aroma of pine and citrus hops, Some chocolate, some come caramel, some resin. Flavor is quite bitter. There is some dark malt sweetness to add a bit of balance. A semblance of balance, even. Smooth creamy texture, full mouthfeel. Average carbonation, finishes nice and bitter. Overall, great beer.

Bomber. Pours a deep (opaque?) dark brown, coffee-with-a-lotta-cream colored head, outstanding retention and lacing. Looks like a stout or porter. Nose is heavy pine hoppiness, some malt. Mouth is big and hoppy up front, then coffee, butterscotch, slightly boozy, vanilla, leather and some cocoa, finishes with a fading bitterness. Drier than I expected (that’s a good thing) and a bit warm from the ABV. Really nice.

Wish this was in 6-packs, or 12-packs, or pallets. It’s the 9.5% abv IPA I could drink all year. Smells great, with pine, smoke and sweetness (!). Very dark brown color, thinner than Close Encounter, which makes it perfect for mass consumption. It tastes not too bitter, not too sweet. Just right. Little alcohol taste. Wow.

IPA version of the flannel pajamas stout. Really nice roast character. Nice looking pour.
