In this epic battle, the Blood of the Unicorn has been shed by the sword of the deadly assassin of the east. One sip of this.aggressively hopped red ale clearly reveals what drives these, the greatest of, hop heads of lore. Is this the end of the mythical horned horse? Or will he rise like the phoenix to fight another day?

As Slayer says, "Blood Red" is the color. Fresh hops with an underlying malt backbone in the aroma. It should be said that this bottle has been shared with the belching Chudwick. Kriskros would call him the wicker da wicker da wick. Then they would make you jump jump.

Bomber thanks to the nostalgic AndyReynolds into the DLD 2013 memento snifter - nose is rye and something akin to the paint thinner, which I’m told is fresh hops. Bitter. Strong. Not doing it for me but I can respect it. Batch 333/334. Fairly dry.

Deep red pour, slightly cloudy. Single finger head. Aroma is full of citrus, mostly grapefruit. Mouth is creamy, but not overly thick and viscous. Taste is full of grapefruit, citrus and caramel. Alcohol is super well hidden, as is the case with most beers in this style. Bitter finish. Lots of lace.

Dark amber pour. Ample creamy head. Different aroma. Odd but not unpleasant just can’t place the scent. Hoppy but not bitter with a slight bite in the aftertaste. Overall good especially since I generally don’t go for hopped up brews.

marcus (9215) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 13, 2014
