Pours deep brown with hint of red with tan head. Smell of liquorice and hops. Tase follows through, overall disappointed with this one
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Boutip (3971) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 22, 2012
Bottle: Poured a deep red/brown color ale with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrus and earthy hops is dominant with medium sweet caramelized malt notes. Taste is also dominated by earthy and citrus hops notes with some semi-sweet caramelized malt notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Nicely done with good hops punch and a solid malt bill.
4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Treebs (733) - , Illinois, USA - OCT 20, 2012
Batch #16. 22 oz. bottle served in a Firestone Walker Proprietors Reserve Series tulip.
A: Pours a deep, deep dark cherry red color with some brown hues mixed in. A thick, light khaki head forms on the pour and sticks around for quite sometime. It recedes very slowly to a thick cap and collar that leaves some sticky sheets of lace behind.
S: Big juicy and piney hops are up front on the first whiff. Big dried biscuit malts with a nice sugar sweetness and berry fruitiness is on the end.
T: Nice fruity flesh and citrus grapefruit bursts are up front, but it gets really down and dirty with some earthy grass and subtle pine. The malt bill comes on strong at the finish with some nice caramel notes, dark spiced bread and a slight toasted bitterness.
M: Medium bodied with a slight bit of oily slickness. The finish is sweet and creamy with a nice medium carbonation level.
O: I’m sort of a amber/red ale fan boy and this one really hit it out of the park. Great creamy sweetness from the malts with a nice balance of fruity and piney hops. I hope this isn’t a one off and sees some semi regular production like NvU.

Smells incredibly fresh - ripe sweet grapefruit (and other fruits I cannot specifically identify), slight pine and herb. Tastes very dry and bitter - not as complex as the aroma.

Bottle shared by MrPickles...thanks Andy! - Pours clear mahogany with a foamy tan head. Pine and grass hops, real sharp and resinous, with a moderately sweet malt base. Taste is big malt, sweet and chewy, with lots of pine and grass hops. Really tastes like it smells. Warming alcohol on the finish. Slick and smooth in the mouth, with not a lot of carbonation. This wasn’t as aggressively hopped as I thought it would be. Could have been sitting around for a bit...

Bottle thanks to StFun! Very dark brown amber pour, thick lasting 1/2 inch head and an aroma of strong woody hops and a little. Flavor has a perfect rich creamy malty base, incredibly wonderful spicy herbal hops, and slightly warming finish. God damn, this might just surpass my favorite imperial red of all time(Ballast Point Tongue Buckler). Thanks for sending this one my way Josh!

22 oz. bottle pours a cloudy dark amber color with good tan head and lacing. Smells of grapefruit and pine. Aroma is the same, but with noticeable caramel and toffee malts. Taste is sweet at first, with a huge bitter hoppy finish and alcohol well hidden. Moutheel is sticky, with average carbonation and at least a medium body. This big beer compares well with its local competitors (Revolution Red Scare and Three Floyds’ Brian Boru). Come to Chicago and try this
