Belgian Strong Dark Ale brewed with Nelson Sauvin Hops and Klug Farms Black Raspberries. Nelson Sauvin hops, Belgian yeast, and black Raspberries?! Whatís this abbot (about)? Brother Razbeardo may be razzín you, but heís not kidding around; this ale is a slam monk (dunk). The juicy hop aroma will entrappe (entrap) you, while the tart black raspberries and warm, spicy yeast character will make you speechless. Brotherís brewed a real zen outta zen (?). Better pour this one on the dubbel (double)!

Draft on tap at Polar Beer Fest 2014 (Chicago, IL). Pours adeep luscious raspberry juice hue, crimson glow on the edges with a good haze in the body. A frothy reddish tinged head sits atop, sticks around, laces ok. Really nice color. Aromas are seedy raspberry and some bready malts, a touch of spice, fruit and biscuit. More raspberry pulp, gentle yeast and sweetness. Initial is a good dose of raspberry juice, a bit fuzzy and tannic, the ellement isnít just sweetness. Touches of biscuit, toast, and vanilla, some fruity elements start to play as we hit the middle. Some peach, gentle dryness as we hit the backend. More raspberry, tannic skin, with some spice, yeast elements. Overall, I think the raspberry certainly sets the pace here. A touch sweet at times, but quite genuine for the most part, juicy and flavorful overall. The Belgian yeast gets covered up a bit, touches of candi sugars and fruit linger or strike a certain note at times. Solid fruit beer. Looks great.

Very dark purple almost black unless in direct light. Taste and smell like raspberry jam. Pretty sweet no sour or tartness

Bottle and served in my PW snifter: Pours a interesting purple-ish hue with a pink-ish head and spotty lace. First impression: BOOM there is an overload of Black Raspberries, right up in your face! Some red wine, plum, clove, anise, aromatic and bready malt attempt mostly in vain to make an appearance. This beer is all about the fruit with some invert sugar, yeast spices and acidic wine notes along for the ride. Shocked on how dry the finish is considering all that came before it. Got to say I love some parts of this beer but also will say that after one glass it got old quick, I should have shared this... Oh well, I fear a headache in the morning from this.

Dark red pour pink head.smell is a dead ringer for Finnish raspberry licorice. The flavor has spices, white wine, slight berry, bittersweetness. Better warmer than colder.

750 mL. Pours a deep claret (wine) color, thin pinkish head with not much retention, soft carbonation (which, as Iíve stated in a few other P-Dub ratings over the past few months now, Iím noticing this undesirable trend... at least this isnít flat though). Nose is heavy with berries mingled with those dank Nelson hops, a hint of barnyard funk. Mouth is medium bodied, relatively dry, hop forward, then some Belgian yeasty-ness and berries, some bread towards finish (a finish that has a lot of characteristics Iíd attribute to a Cab more than a beer). The hops selection is interesting how it plays with the berries, although ultimately the grapey-fruity character that a varietal like NS brings, I feel like it overpowers the raspberries more than accenting them. Not bad, but admittedly I Iiked the Blue Beardo more.

750-ml bottle from wlvliquors. fruity but not tart, more like juice, but not exactly, maybe because of the hops. like blueberries, but not exactly, either. interesting red wine color. unique.

750 ml bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a pinkish tan head. Aroma of raspberries, minty hops, some twizzler and hard candy notes. Some belgian yeast notes, mild spiciness from the hops. Flavor is mostly sweet and tart raspberry notes. Some interesting hop notes. I feel like this would cloying but for the hops, which balance it out. Interesting, kind of weird flavor. Thick mouthfeel, oily palate. Soft carbonation. Finishes with a lot of raspberries and herbal, minty, and candy hops.

Not very sweet, but with flavors of bubble gum, red licorice, and raspberries. Semi-dry with some tannins and bitterness. The hops give a bit of a spicy quality.
