3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 16, 2014 Courtesy of tectactoe
Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, caramel, molasses, and faint cherry. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin ring. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate, light-moderate molasses, and a hint of caramel. The finish has roasted coffee, faint tart cherries and the slightest hint of nuts. Itís medium-full bodied with mild carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown to black pour with a tan head. The aroma has some nice roasted malt, chocolate and cherry notes. The flavor also features a lot of cherries. There is also some heavy chocolate notes that, as expected, go great with the cherries. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle share thanks to beechner224. Batch 204. More booze in this than the others, light roast, not much cherry. Roasty, light cherry, not much else.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle - Pours cola-colored with no head. Nose is fruity, with dark malt--not real pungent. Taste has medicinal cherry, chocolate, dark malt. Itís not that great--pretty ashy with a touch of cinnamon. Medium body and well-carbonated. A disappointment.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
750mL bottle poured into a brandy snifter. This one has a relatively thin, soapy, beige head which dissipates quickly to a wispy layer on top of a deep cola brown body - which is fairly transparent for an imperial stout. The lacing is very spotty and runny; I think itís fair to say that this one doesnít lace. Dark fruit aromas come through with some strength including - as advertised - cherry accompanied by plum and strawberry (maybe some peach too). Thereís also a mellow earthy-truffle, milky cheese (mozzarella comes to mind) aroma competing with the sweet fruits. Some background notes include spice (anise?), vanilla bean ice cream, and alcohol. Itís sweet, no denying that. A heavy dose of cherry and milk chocolate sweet. This starts to turn to a bitter dark chocolate with, perhaps, some very light, mild, spicy hop bitterness, but as soon as it starts to come on strong (both chocolate and spice), the bitterness is washed away by a fatty/umami which I chalk up to the truffles. Dark chocolate starts to take over more as it warms up adding a bit more bitter to compliment the sweet. It strikes me as a "dessert" beer. For an imp stout, this beer is notably thin and light bodied, but it is extremely sticky - felt like I had to wash my face afterwards, but then again, maybe I should take that as a wake-up call that Iím a slob. Thereís a trace amount of carbonation which becomes non existent further into the drink. At the end, weíre left with a chocolate and dark-fruit-sweet aftertaste. Itís definitely unique, and better than some of the more viscerally negative reviews Iíve read. An interesting flavor combination; not necessarily a "homerun," but not a strikeout either. Might to an interesting one to take up the labelís suggestion and cellar for a year or so to see how the flavors evolve.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml bottle from the Art of Beer, cellar aged a month; batch numbers 259/260, which were early December, so this is a 6 week old stout from batch date. Pours a very dark brown with reddish highlights. A faint tannish head dissipates fairly rapidly leaving little lace. Aroma has cherry and vanilla and chocolate, with some plastic. Taste is of sweet caramel, cocoa and cherry syrup. Medium bodied. Finishes quite sweet and somewhat fruity. The base "abduction" brew is rich, fudgy and tasty. This one somehow does not have the best parts of the base. Coffee abduction was terrific, but the "fruit" versions have been quite lacking.
