3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Many thanks to Charlie for the bottle!
Yields a clear, dark orange color, with a bubbly, slim head.
The aromas are much sweeter than I expected, with ripe peach and mango, accompanied by dough malts, crowned by a whiff of zingy lemon. Malts support the sun ripened fruit character by providing a distinct biscuit quality. The hops push even a little further, adding red apple peel to the nose, together with glazed tangerine.
Tastes of sweeter malts, balancing the more and more noteable fruity hops, evoking flavors of peach, orange and tangerine. Slightly prickly, juicy peaches get accompanied by grassy citrus, adding a little twist to the sappy hops. Drinks very smooth, with a well fitting carbonation, and a prominent resinous, honeyed impact, enhancing the luscious character of the brew. A distinct biscuity malt sweetness is the harbinger for a citraic, dry bitterness, leaving a slick, slightly fruity aftertaste back on the palate.

Grapefruit citrus, mild grassiness, some zest. Bigger caramel malt. Nice hoppy heat on the finish. Solid imp IPA, bit sweet though.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From BInny’s in Buffalo Grove. Batch 503. Fresh! Pours a golden orange with a white head leaving streaky lacing. Aroma has fresh fruit, pineapples, heavy citrus, spicy pine and mangoes. There is luscious sweet fruits, pineapple, grapefruit, grapefruit rind, tangy pine and some chewy resin in the flavor. Very little evidence of any malt. Hot and peppery; perhaps too young. Medium bodied and sticky. Finishes fruity, and slightly more bitter than sweet in the end, on that bitter-sweet scale. A strongly hop-forward example, but - as I say when given an opportunity - who really needs malts anyway. 15.2 Possibly Pipeworks best IPA, but it owes it to the hop involved more than anything different done by the brewery.
