Bottle. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex citrus hop aroma. Medium to full body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy smooth bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer and exceeded my expectations.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Orange pour with a white head. Big pineapple, grapefruit, and pine hops. Floral notes, some sweet caramel, peach, and mango. Nice nose. The flavor is a touch sweet with a lot of fruit notes and some caramel malt. There’s a ton of pineapple, mango, and grapefruit. Some bitter pine, a touch of grass, and a nice floral note.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle... Mostly clear orange pour with a small, creamy, white head. Decent retention. I stick my nose into the glass and find a grapefruit rind/marijuana/sweaty armpit collection of odors. Well, at least there’s the grapefruit component to sort of "save the day." Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. The flavor provides a stream of malty toffee and caramel flowing alongside heavy, rindy, hop bitterness. Nicely-balanced overall, but the hops are really the stars of this show. Finishes modestly bitter, tongue-numbing and grassy. Big-time thanks to the always-generous BBB63 for floating this bottle my way!

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2012 Bottle @ home, courtesy of TheAlum. Thanks Adam! Pours a touch hazy, orange appearance with a lasting, cream colored head. Spicy, huge grapefruit ctirusy, somewhat resiny, light ganja hoppy, very pleasant aroma. Moderate garlic, light onion, grapefruity, potent, fresh resiny hoppy, marijuana, somewhat citrusy flavor. Really nice stuff. Thanks Adam!

Bottle. Pours amber gold with white head. Nose and taste of fresh citrus, grapefruit rind, caramel malt, orange rind, mango pit and tropical fruits. Taste is an earthy/slightly herbal feel to it. Finishes dry pine/resin/birch sap. Medium body.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 19, 2014 A citra IPA on steroids. For me this pretty much hits every mark for the citra dipa style.
Deep orangeish pour nice foamy white head. The smell is juicy with a limited malt sweetness and tons of citrus, melon, tropical. Like a mix of NvU with a suped-up ZD. The flavor is where this one is just awesome. A medium to high bitterness which has been absent on some other citra-based beers I have had. The flavor has some bitter citrus rind, tropical notes, almost berryness, and not much malt backbone, only enough to carry the hop flavors. IMO it gets more tropical as it warms. Really a citrus-forward ipa with a high bitterness. Love it a ton.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle sampled at the Side Project release bottle share. Pours a clear deep gold with a small white head. Notes of citrus fruits, caramel, pine resin, and some tropical fruits- though not as much as expected. Medium-bodied, with a bitter, citrusy, resinous mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. A little subdued compared to other citra hop IPAs I’ve had, especially when considering its description. Still solid.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle served in my Pipeworks snifter: Pours a deep golden hue with a fading fizzy head and spotty lace. The aroma has brash Citra overtones that is dank, resin, lemon, tangerine, peppery and pity. The light pale malts pretty much do not not make much of an impression. The taste is more of the same cat pee, onion, garlic, dankness and resin overtone with a sharp citrus character. Again the malts are hardly found. The finish has moderate peppery and leafy notes. The mouth feel is highly aggressive and biting, some alcohol warming. Lingering pity character kept it from being a 5. Extreme Hop Heads will dig this but I found it one-dimensional and overbearing within one glass and will have a hard time finishing off the bomber.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle from Binnys SL (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich deeper amber orange hue, healthy deep glow, darker hues in the body with firm haze. Bigger cakey offwhite head stays as a bigger layer, laces well overall. Aromas are a firmly catty and bigger fruit melange. Settles a bit showing big tropical fruit and citrusy grapefruit, orange, by-the-book bigger Citra hop elements give lots of fruit flavor, firm bitterness, melange of fruit, tropical and juicy fruit, some citrus, florals and grass. Bready malts, touch of bubblegum. But never gets to that ’ah, too sweet, fruit, cotton candy" realm at all that some beers like this do. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a bit lighter with some firm bitterness, dry florals, grass, lemons up front. A dry punch up front, firmly bitter with lemons, touches of melon. Bitterness grows as it warms, nice bigger kick up front, dry and resiny. Middle shows a mellow fruit sweetness, some bread, pale malts. Never gets sweet from a malt body standpoint, never gets full or cloying. A lighter body supports a bigger Citra hopping. Firmly bitter, good fruity orange, tropical fruit, and melon flavors. Grapefruit, florals, and lemons. A touch spicy, dry earthy florals, bit of pine into the backend. This really is a choice offering, small malt body with a healthy, flavorful, complex hopping. I love Ninja vs. Unicorn, but thos Citra hopping is really above it. Sometimes, Citra beers get a bit sweet for me but this really stays firmly bitter throughout, the malt body stays small, cotton candy elements stay away. Backend might give me just a faint waft of that odd "Little Caesars Pizza Spice" thing I get sometimes, but it’s fleeting. Really damn nice beer here, Beej and Gerrit. My favorite Pipeworks beer so far (With Ninja and Close Encounter rounding out the Top)
