BOttle. Black as night and a nice thick tan head. Aroma is an awesome blend of chocolate, dark cocoa and an aggressive pine character. Plenty of both. It tastes much like it smells, tons of chocolate and roast, thick piney woody character that balances both the sweet and bitter, medium to full body, just delicious

_angst_ (2798) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - DEC 22, 2012
Bomber courtesy of tkrjukoff. Pours black with a big frothy dark mocha head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of thick lacing and trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, fruity and hoppy with roasted malts, caramel, toffee, tropical fruit hard candy, pine, resinous wood, peaches, papaya, star fruit, powdered sugar, salty liquorice, grapefruit juice and dark roast coffee. Taste is tiny sweet and very bitter with roasted malts, ammonium chloride, black pepper, wood, burnt cookies, caramel, oily pine, resin, unripe mango, star fruit, pumpernickel bread, very astringent black tea, grapefruit rinds, dried apricots and orange peal. Mouthfeel is oily bitter, heavy astringent and medium to full bodied. Finish is bitter with grapefruit rinds, roasted malts, ammonium chloride, burnt caramel, pine, wood, dark bread, dried apricots and star fruit. Way too bitter but otherwise nice...

Bottle... Pours black with a small, creamy, beige head. Great retention. The bouquet is a merger of mocha, vanilla and metal. Medium-bodied with stinging carbonation. The flavor leans lightly sweet overall, offering notes of dark chocolate and café con leche flanked by a moderate amount of burnt and rindy bitterness. Deeply roasted, bittersweet finish. Bottle courtesy of KickInChalice!

(Bottle) Pours black with a creamy pale brown head. The aroma holds grapefruit, grass, tutti frutti, salt liquorice, dark chocolate, black coffee, toffee and asphalt. The flavour is light sweet to dry, heavily bitter and light to medium acidic with tons of hops and deep roasted malt, really brutal. The mouthfeel is fat, round, oily and astringent with a soft carbonation. Brutal, almost burned roast and mega bitter hops on the finish. Medium bodied.

Bomber @ DTTEOD. Pours black with a huge creamy tanned head leaving lace. Aroma is roasted malty fruity licorice chocolate candy slightly smokey. Flavor is nicely balanced between the black and hoppy; roasted bitter dark chocolate, salty licorice, coffee has slight sweetness and fruityness. Finishes longlived roasted bitter.

Dark pour and one of the few really nice black IPA’s as of late. Love the mix of the dark roasted malt and the hops. Not overly roasty, not overly hopped. Great balance.

Pours an inky black with a medium, although quickly fading, tan head. Interesting aroma of roasted malts, pine, chocolate, coffee, herbal hops, and even a bit of grapefruit as well. The taste is just as interesting, or maybe different is a better description. Pine is the dominant taste, and there is lots of it. It is mixed with very roasted malts and coffee, with that touch of citrus grapefruit. It is very bitter and has a good hoppy kick that I like. The aftertaste is pine and those herbal hops, while still being very roasted. Medium in body, an oily texture, without any carbonation. This is a very unusual beer. It feels like a big stout, yet the tastes more like a big IPA. Even due to the fact that you don’t find something like this everyday, this one is highly recommendable simply because it is so good.

Bottle on Amtrak Train 506 between Portland and Seattle (from Binny’s South Loop) 08/11/12. Batch # 010. Dark black with a big dirty tan head - this looks the bollocks! Nose is dark roast malt, light hops, chocolate, molasses, leather, wood, tobacco, touch of smoke. Taste follows, bitter chocolate, a little hops, some pine, a touch of soap. Full bodied with soft carbonation, smooth on the palate, dry bitter finish. Good stuff but this really came across as to me more of a stout than a Black IPA! I was picking up pine and hops and bitterness, but the stout elements maybe shaded it 55-45 for me !
