(3/5/13) Pour - Pours dark black with a half finger of biscuit colored head that is gone fast. Nose - Roast. Sweet. Vanilla. Some savory/umami. A bit of herbal/floral hoppiness and a hint of booze. Taste - Well done! Medium to dark roast coffee, maybe some espresso notes too, and vanilla blend wonderfully. Semi dry earthly, floral, citrusy, hop notes in the middle. A roasty, bitter - slightly astringent - finish. Mouthfeel - Amazingly complex. Creamy and oily - almost like a silky syrup. Full bodied and sticky. Overall - This is a superbly crafted brew. The flavors and aromas blend amazingly to create a brew that is a complex sum of its parts. Easily the best non-BA coffee stout I’ve had.

Le nez et l’arrière-goût est ce qui se rapproche le plus de la founders breakfast stout. Les notes de chocolat noir et de café au lait affluent sans retenu dans un corps onctueux et riche. Une concoction réussie.

Bottle 22fl.oz.

Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, beige head. Aroma is light heavy malty, roasted, coffee, dusty coffee. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, coffee, chocolate, light chili fruit - earthy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130427]

Bomber. A pitch black beer with a large, frothy/creamy, mostly lasting brown head. The aroma is modeartely to heavily malty (roasted grain, coffee, chocolate), lightly to moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit), with notes of alcohol, licorice, hint of berries and vanilla. The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Full body, oily/creamy texture, soft carbonation, very long finish with moderate to heavy bitterness, moderately alcoholic. I wouldn’t say I’m surprised by the high quality, but all the other Pipeworks bottle scored approximately in the mid 3s or less. This one is pretty nicely balanced, without overbearing coffee, booze or sweetness. I was just in the mood for it. Pity for the price and the difficult availability.

Pretty good, actually. Fresh cup of (average quality) coffee per glass blends well into the base. Solid.

Bottle (batch 74). Black pour with a large, thick dark tan head. Aroma is light coffee, hop bitterness, chocolate roast, and pine. Taste is bitter coffee with hops, darker fruit notes underneath, roast, and vanilla. Velvety smooth mouthfeel. Damn hoppy imperial stout. Nice.
