Purchased at Binnyís in Chicago, IL, enjoyed at a friends house while watching Anaconda, for some reason. Appearance is moderately thick pitch black with a rich frothy white head. Aroma its very bitter coffee and chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla, very light sweetness. Taste is fantastic. Rich dark chocolate, hazelnut, and vanilla notes, utterly rich coffee profile, more of an espresso richness. Vanilla is pure and doesnít taste like extract was used, more like vanilla beans were integrated. This brewery does great things with imperial stouts.

22oz bottle shared thanks to JohnGonk. Pours pitch black color with a finger of foamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, some dark fruits, and faint coffee notes. Taste of sweet caramel and roasted malts, vanilla, ash, and dark chocolate. Not bad, but too sweet for my liking. Maybe be better with more age.

Bottle (batch 74). Black pour with a large, thick dark tan head. Aroma is light coffee, hop bitterness, chocolate roast, and pine. Taste is bitter coffee with hops, darker fruit notes underneath, roast, and vanilla. Velvety smooth mouthfeel. Damn hoppy imperial stout. Nice.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black, quick leaving head, cola like carbonation.
Smell fruity coffee and chocolaty stout. Roasty and no bitterness.
Taste a bit sweeter, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, and roast.
I feel this drinks more like an imp porter than imp stout. Flavors mesh well together. Fairly simple but well done.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours pitch black with a brown head and strong aroma of coffee and espresso. Taste is strong as well, lots of heavy coffee and espresso with chocolate and roasted malt and a long, warming finish. Excellent brew with a lot of coffee flavor.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber. A pitch black beer with a large, frothy/creamy, mostly lasting brown head. The aroma is modeartely to heavily malty (roasted grain, coffee, chocolate), lightly to moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit), with notes of alcohol, licorice, hint of berries and vanilla. The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Full body, oily/creamy texture, soft carbonation, very long finish with moderate to heavy bitterness, moderately alcoholic. I wouldnít say Iím surprised by the high quality, but all the other Pipeworks bottle scored approximately in the mid 3s or less. This one is pretty nicely balanced, without overbearing coffee, booze or sweetness. I was just in the mood for it. Pity for the price and the difficult availability.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle, batch #112, courtesy of Ratebeer Brackets. pours a deep, dark brown that sits black in the glass with a thin ring of khaki lace around the edges. aroma is great with heavy, rich black coffee, espresso beans, and cocoa powder backed by earthy topsoil, cake batter, roast, and very subtle vanilla. flavor is really delicious with a heavy dose of dark chocolate cake layered atop hazelnuts, espresso, roasted malts, and smoke backed by smooth lactose sugar, vanilla pudding, and even a touch of caramel. palate is full bodied and creamy with smooth carbonation and a lingering finish of roast and cocoa. overall, a damn nice effort from pipeworks.

Pretty good, actually. Fresh cup of (average quality) coffee per glass blends well into the base. Solid.
