3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle from Printers Row (Chicago, IL). Pours a thick blackish opaque pour. A black brownish pour is deep, dark, thick with a motor oil-esque feel. Small brownish head dies to a ring, laces small overall. Deep hues and body. Aromas are a good deal of coffee, roasty and earthy, some more secondary espresso like vibrancy of flavors, gentle yet firm vanilla bean. Cocoa, coffee, and roast. Caramel and toffee, biscuits. Some gentle red and dark fruit make a mellow appearance but much more secondary than it is in base Abduction. Nose asserts itself a little more as it settles in the glass. Quite pleasant, more restrained than some of the big brooding Coffee RIS options but nice. Initial is some more cherry elements, black cherry, richer coffee, roast, and espresso hit the palate, some vanilla. Biscuits, thicker black and toffee malts. Cocoa, caramel, and biscuits. A fuller body has some mellow carbonation, could use a bit more. The middle and backend make an appearance of that red fruit and medicinal cough syrupy feel I personally get with Abduction. The coffee element killed it out up front, but into the backend the coffee mixes with that presence. Jabs of coffee, espresso, vanilla, roast, and thicker sticky malts. At times that cough syrup feel interferes for me a bit. A touch of dryness at times, roast, toast. Some cocoa, coffee jabs firmly at times, let’s the Abduction base show more at others. A bit hot, touches of cough syrup on the backend in and out, mixing with a good coffee vibe, toast, thicker big malts, some dryness and a touch of ash or coolness. I’d call this an improvement over regular Abduction.. But the cough syrup feel really hits me with this beer. The oaked and barrel aged versions seem to kill that for me though (from homebrew stuff and FoBAB) and make a markedly higher scoring beer for me. Better than the original but maybe this just isn’t my type of RIS. Solid offering.. Coffee gives some fun and enjoyable flavors. Cool or cough syrupy feel into the backend is improved but still present from the original.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours black with a very dark brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma is mainly coffee and espresso with a bit of dark chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor starts with coffee but mellows to allow a nice dark roasted malt note to come out that is complimented by some dark chocolate.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle. Thanks to the guys... Pours with a slight stillness upfront with a deeper stouty black hue, lesser intense edges with auburn tones and topped with a thin wispy medium khaki head... Aroma of of chocolate and coffee notes upfront, sweet molasses and brown sugar through the middle. Coffee is most dominant with the chocolates fudge aspects not too far behind... Flavors are more of the same with a foreboding sweetness through the middle as well as through the finish where a light bitter astringency fortunately cuts through. Earthy and fuller bodied with an adequate level of carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled at esbls. Very dark red brown. Almost no head. A nose of coffee and a bit of ash. First sip is kind of freezer burn. Malta are huge but the coffee has faded some. It is surprisingly bitter. Background fruit.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber. Pours a thick (think 10W30 thick) brown-black, opaque with thin (and rapidly disappearing) espresso colored head. Nose is dark roast malts and some strong Joe, hints of cocoa. Mouth is thick and oily, semisweet up front with malty backbone highlighted by coffee, some vanilla, caramel and bakers chocolate. Finish is long and lingering bittersweetness. Let it snow, and let the aliens come... I’m ready for both of em. ;-)

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by the guys. Thanks! Pours a deep black with a dark brown head. The nose is nice, shows a big hit of creamy coffee, on the mellower cocoa side. Some roasted barley and toasted malt as well. Light hopping. On tasting, the coffee is much weaker. Some faint ashy notes, char and cocoa. Herbal coffee. Would like a bigger hit of coffee flavor to match up with the nose. Decent. Bit thinnish body.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber bought @ bierkompass.de. Pours brownish black with a rather small frothy and fizzy mocha head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is sweet with roasted malts, lots of sweetened dark roast coffee, vanilla beans, dark chocolate, charred wood, burnt cookies, hay and hints of green chili and alcohol. Taste is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, sweet liquorice candy, burnt cookies, alcohol, charred wood, vanilla essence, soy sauce and hints of green chili. Mouthfeel is soft, slightly oily, round, roasted astringent and medium bodied. Finish is bitter with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, charred wood, burnt cookies and hints of green chili and soy sauce. Good but a bit unbalanced...
