3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
25th November 2013
Hazy dark red - amber - brown beer. Small cream coloured head. Palate is smooth and dry with fine carbonation. Smooth malt base, a little cream. Sweet generic candy fruits with cherry rising to the top and becoming identifiable. Well integrated spice provides a counterpoint but overall this is a sweet sweet beer. Finishes smooth. Certainly drinkable but not in big quantaties!

Bomber at Jerryís. Murky caramel with scant, beige head, no legs / Sweet, boozy nose of dark fruit, banana, caramel, / Medium to full body, a touch thin, sweet but with solid hop balance, light burn on finish / Flavors of date, raisin, caramel, orange, turning apple, banana, sherry, clove / Well intentioned, and enjoyable, but doesnít quite come together.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The dubbel that drinks like a quad. My bottle didnít have carbonation issues, I got bubbles and a fizzy tang on the tongue, but this is supposed to be lightly carbonated I think. And it is. Makes it very creamy, very sweet, nothing really balances out the sweetness. But it tastes great, all the quad flavors of banana/clove/bubblegum I love. Appearance is a rich brown. I wonít get another bottle, but I really enjoyed this one.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
22 oz. bottle. Dark brown pour with little to no head. uh oh, looks like a bit of a carbonation problem with this guy. Aroma of dates, beligan yeast, some earth tones, brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, some belgian candi sugar, lots of unfermented sugars. Medium bodied, almost no carbonation. In fact, itís pretty much flat. Iím thinking I got a bad bottle. Iíll re-rate.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle and served in a PW snifter: Pours a murky brown hue with a fading minimal heda and not much lace. The aroma is full of sweet malts of caramel, chocolate and Special B "plummynessí along with dates and raisins. Brown sugar, banana, cloves and even a bit of smoked meat too... holy monks this smells sweet, decadent and unlike most PW offerings. The taste is malty and near cloying, heavy on the dark fruit and sweet malts. Some spicy notes and a fair amount of alcohol too. Really as this warms it seems to me more akin to a Quadruple than a Dubbel. The mouth feel is extremely lush, sticky and aggressive with a slightly mineral finish. Yeah this is not for everyone but I like it but not sure I would want another since this screams HANGOVER with so many unfermentables left to their own devices... if you like dark sugar and Special B then this beer is up your alley.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Pours a murky brownish, not much in the way of a head, some lacing. Nose is Yeast funk, dried fruit, some pumpernickel bread. Mouth is medium-full bodied, mild sweetness, oily-sticky mouthfeel, caramel, dates, some vanilla, hint of banana and a hint of gum Arabic, finish is toasty. Had worse Dubbels, had better too.
