Bottle. Pours a deep dark black with a large dense mocha head. Roast on the nose, chocolate, cocoa. On the thin side of medium, body a little lacking what I would have expected given the pour and the 8% ABV, but still solid enough. Spicy chile comes through right away, gorgeous. The heat is noticeable but never invasive or distracting, remarkably well balanced. Cocoa, a good amount of roast. The combination of chocolate and chili is great. A little lingering heat and chocolate on the finish. Very well done.

Not a fan of the spices in this beer sadly. Has some nice chocolate scents with faded spices. Taste is a bit of chocolate and the spices crawl up the back of your throat.

22oz bomber poured into a tulip glass. Aroma is spicy, soy sauce, leather, a little chocolate. Taste is spicy! It really takes over this beer, too much for me.

Bomber. Black color. Dusty aroma of roasted malt. Medium body, dark chocolate flavor, caramel, residual sweetness, liquorice, a bit salty and with a kick of spices, lightly creamy. Good.

22 oz bottle shared by Bunker. Pours dark brown/black with a small disappearing beige head. The aroma has roasted malt, chocolate, spices, peppers and dark fruits. The flavor has roasted malts, chocolate dark fruits, vanilla, and a slow hitting pepper spice. Perhaps a touch thin, but nice flavor.

Spicy, creamy, chocolatey, and spiced. Very effervescent with a spicy pepper finish. Very interesting mix between a milk stout, spicy peppers, and cocoa nibs.

Bottle from a trade with Pawola22. Batch #29. Pours dark brown with thin tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, and lactose. Similar flavors with a big dose of heat from the chilis. Wow, wasn’t expecting the heat; hadn’t read any review prior to trying this. Medium to full body with soft carbonation. Thanks Brian.

22oz bottle from Binny’s Lakeview. Batch #29. Pours a black body with a thin, frothy and fizzy, dark brown head that dissipates quickly and leaves a light lacing. Aroma is solid with bigger chocolates and cocoa nibs as well as some lactose sweetness and a bunch of raisin dark fruits. Fairly roasty with some cinnamon, a light vanilla, toffee, a hint of coffee, and a light earthy pepper note with a light heat. Flavor is just as nice. Cocoa nibs, roast, cinnamon, and some earthiness from the peppers up front before the chocolate gets pretty rich with a light toffee note, a touch of coffee, and a good amount of raisins. Vanilla comes on towards the end as the earthiness from the peppers grows slightly before they add a big, but nice heat in the finish. Some lactose keeps this sweet with a bunch of vanilla and cocoa nibs that is balanced nicely by the roasts, cinnamon, and bigger pepper heat. Lengthy aftertaste following a fairly full body and a lighter carbonation. Overall, a pretty awesome tasting and smelling beer with a big pepper kick and plenty of cocoa nibs, chocolate, roasts, vanilla, and cinnamon to balance. Not a whole lot of lacing (probably from the vanilla beans or cocoa nibs) and the carbonation was a tad low, but really enjoyable all-around. A few tweaks and this could be sensational.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 HonkeyBra (2483) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - SEP 9, 2012
22 oz bottle. Big, black pour with a thin tan head that fades to a ring around the glass. Aroma of chocolate, spice, some brownie with an apparent chili twang. Flavor is strong chocolate and lactose sugars followed by a rush of chili. Mild vanilla and cocoa notes. The heat is quite intense and enjoyable. This beer has a slick mouthfeel, and more chili heat in the finish. This is dead on for a chili beer.
