4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 crossovert (4558) - Wisconsin, USA - NOV 14, 2012
650ml bottle into my scottish style dimpled mug. It is a dark brownish red/cola color with a foamy ligth tan head. The smell is rich in malty and despite the adjuncts is pretty spot on for the style (though I have limited experience with this style, I did have a Balhaven Wee Heavy last night). Maybe a little bit hoppier than the style normally woudl be in the smell. The flavor is rich and boozy. There is tons of coca and some peatiness. Jsut rich, rich malt flavor, I would be interested in the mash done or the malts used. The mouthfeel is thick on first sip but then becomes slick and boozy, right in line with its freshness and abv. This one is a killer from Pipeworks I think Ill need to get more to age/drink.
... and when your almost done with it the fenugreek hits you, it really hits.

Tan head. Maple, vanilla, molasses on nose. Deep brown in color. Nice body. Well carbonated. Sweet. Maple til the cows come home. Molasses. Roastiness. Toasty. Great Scotch Ale. More carbonated than most. Slight booze burn. Definitely a sipper. Though dangerously easy to put back.

500ml courtesy of MrPickles. Big, sweet, chocolate tinged Wee Heavy. Really big on the specialty malts, hard to believe it isn’t barrel aged with all the massive sugary flavor. Has that burnt meat, smoky flavor of a Rauch, but really big a sticky sweet. Meaty, rich. Good beer.

22 oz. bottle served in a Midnight Sun chub. Batch # 47
A: Pours a dark brown color with semi clear edges where the light hits. A thin tan head forms on the pour and dissipates to a thin ring.
S: Nice roast with some smokey peat as well. Malty sweetness as well.
T: Creamy, smokey and sweet. Light chocolate with some nice bitter roast. Incredibly smooth and rich. There is a slight underlying fruitiness as well. A little alcohol to boot.
M: Medium bodied with a medium low carbonation. Creamy and oily mouthfeel.
O: Great mouthfeel with nice complexity in the flavor department. Definitely one of the best Non-BA Scotch Ales I’ve ever had. Will enjoy again!

Another great brew from a recently aquired Chicago shipment. As much as I love big IPAs ive always been partial to dark malt forward beers and this one is no exception. Pours a deep mahogany with a creamy head. Aroma of rich dark fruit and molasses (as one might expect seeing as it is brewed with it). Great rich heavy mouth feel, the molasses is rich and decadent with a hint of smoke. An awesome after dinner beer to share aroud the holidays.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of kanin1805. Pours a deep reddish amber with a slight haze and a small beige head. Nose has thick molasses, juicy nuts and caramel. Very rich body, a massive maltiness, thick cane sugar but never cloying as such. A touch of spices, but again not overdone. Some warming alcohol. No real traces of smoke. A rich and wholesome beer! 030413

Bomber from Cardinal-Niles. Pours dark hazy brown with tan head. Nice looking for style. Aromas of vanilla, smokey malts, caramel, toffee, and some dark fruits. Flavors of rich dark malts, toffee, vanilla, light smoke, and a bit of raisin. Would love it to be a little sweeter, but that is just a personal preference. Nice wee heavy.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a clear dark brown color with a moderate frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium to heavy toasted malt and earthy scotch aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. A smooth complex drinkable brew.

Pours deep brown with sweet notes if raisins. A sweet note showing sweetness that drives into a bit if a mealy dry finish. Barely wine style is what I get here.
