UPDATED: FEB 17, 2013 Rerate 2-17 batch 87. Shipped out on tuesday. So much fresher than last time. Fantastic hop citrius bomb. Good amount of bitterness. Fantastic. Easily on the same level as dreadnaught. Original rating 12-29 3.4 Batch 33. Probably a bit old. Golden pour. Hop aroma. Slight citrius. Some flour perfume to it. Fair amount of bitterness. Ok nothing special.

Guest draft at Lagunitas Beer Circus. Big piney hop smell up front. Amber beer under a foamy head. Taste has lots of Citra bitterness, but a strong pineapple component, too. A bit more malt sweetness, too. Under these conditions, I donít get much more alcohol, which is just fine with me; the flavor is strong enough to speak for itself.

Color is blonde. Taste is well balanced, little taste of alcohol even being at 8.5% . the ibuís over 140 doesnít even taste that hoppy. A really well balanced IPA.

22oz bottle pours out a golden orange topped with a small head. Nose is tropical fruit citrus pineapple melon and a nice sweetness. Taste is more of the tropical fruit pineapple grapefruit pithy and a nice malty sweetness to hold it together.

Batch #692. Pours hazy orange with a nice frothy white head. Head retention is good. AROMA: tropical fruit, orange, pineapple, peppercorns, citrus, herbal/floral notes, slight malt and hop bitterness. FLAVOR: citrus, tropical fruit, pineapple, hop bitterness, slight malt, slight peppercorns, spice, tangerines and light alcohol. FINISH: dry oily feel with a citrus, hop and slight peppery aftertaste. First time having anything from pipeworks and it didnít disappoint. Awesome flavors, aromas and look to the brew. Really looking forward to tasting more from Pipeworks.

Bottled. Pours slightly hazy golden with a large, off-white head. Aroma of citrus fruts, peach and caramel. Sweet flavor that ends up dry and nice bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and average carbonation. A lovely DIPA indeed. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Stine (1649) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 13, 2015
Transparent rusty orange appearance with tight-bubbled, resilient lacing. Caramel and tinny, honey sweetness in the initial nose, accented skillfully with the tropical touch points of modern hop interpretations; cantaloupe, pineapple, and mango. The malt shadings are confidently dark and bothersome in their intense, outmoded sweetness; this seems in general to intentionally recall those classic, dated examples of the style that prioritized extremity.

The flavor however demonstrates a tidy balance between the fruit-forward, drier interpretations and the heavy specialty malt, overpowering bitterness ones from prior years. There are sappy resins overlapping with fresh herb flavors, and juicy stone fruits blurring the boundaries of the darker malt sugars. The dichotomy is certainly interesting, and it is largely successful -probably because of the quality of the craft here.

The mouthfeel is full, with a sharply bitter, bruising smack to it. Long, lingering bitterness and sweetness together in the finish with honey and pistachio-like sugars, and lots of weedy resins. That it isnít overwhelming in any pointed way is the notable accomplishment here, when restraint clearly wasnít the objective.

Lightly hazed orange pour with a finger or two of white head. Tons of lacing. Aroma is candy oranges, peach, resin, and caramel. Taste is grapefruit, pine, caramel, and over ripe peach. Lasting bitterness. Sticky body. Really good.

fraternie (907) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 25, 2015
Mixed between caramel malt and citrusy undertones on the palate, but this is really a pure hop bomb, turning crisp, bitter and a bit overwhelming through the finish, heat covered well however.
