Continuing our theme of Saisons brewed with peppercorns, Poivre du Sichuan is brewed with Szechuan peppercorns, coriander, pink peppercorns, ginger and ornage peal. Fermented using a French Saison yeast, the result is a blend of citrus and floral notes with a unique kick from the Szechuan peppercorns. We hope you’ll enjoy this unique take on a traditional beer. UPDATED: AUG 28, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Ed. Deep, yellow body with just a touch of haziness; super volatile, foamy white head on top. Aroma of bready yeast, generic spiciness, peppercorns, & a touch of heat... smells like chili peppers just a little bit. Muzzled, kind of messy. Taste is loaded with dry & clean saison yeast, bread, & some gummy clove notes. Peppercorns hammer hard mid-palate to add a bit of zest. Mint, yeast, & dry paper notes in the finish. A little strange, discombobulated. Okay & fun to try, but not something to seek out.

Bottle: The aroma consists of citrus, florals notes, orange peel, and peppercorns. It pours a mostly transparent gold with just a touch of haze. It has a large white head that fades to a thin film. The flavor starts with citrus and faint cotton candy. He finish has light-moderate floral notes, orange peel and peppercorns. It’s light bodied with lively (bordering on prickly) carbonation.

Pours very hazy gold with tons of white head. Took forever to pour. Aroma is grassy and citrus hops with saison yeast. Nice yeast profile with lots of interesting spice to it. Balanced well with the nice floral citrus hop profile. Really good.

Lightly hazy gold beer with a small white head. Palate is light, airy and dry. Fine carbonation. Dry thin malt. Nice black pepper, aromatic and flavoursome without too much heat. Light citric hops provide contrast. Finishes light and dry. Could be a very nice beer with a bit more body.

Huge foamy eruption as the liquid dribbles from its bottle. Great retention & lace. Bright, springy, peppery yeast dominates the aroma. Coriander plays second fiddle.

Taste brings everything together, albeit not deliciously. Peppercorns show up more boldly on the palate. Bitter yeast at the end. Too much carb, as expected. Another mediocre Piperworks beer.
