3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle. Pours a dusty, murky orange-yellow with a frothy white layer of foam. Smells earthy, sweet, peppery, spicy. It tasted thoroughly unfiltered and yeasty. The peppercorns worked nicely with the traditional saison aspects. Palate was medium bodied and fizzy. This is a good mealtime beverage.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bomber poured a nice orangish copper color with aromas of peppercorns, yeast, light ginger, and some citrus. Flavors follow suit with a light spicy yeast in the back end.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate citrus, floral, ginger, red peppercorn and yeast aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy spice citrus flavor with a medium to heavy spice sweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectation where exceeded.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber to snifter (thanks alexsdad06). Looks good; a semi-opaque burnt-orange with sticky off-white lacing. Smells of oranges, peppercorn, other spices, and Belgian yeast. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. A solid example of the style.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
800th review! Bottle purchased at West Lakeview awhile back while in Chicago. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a ton of foamy head. Has a floral scent and a very distinct flowery-yet-spiced taste. Very light on the tongue and crisp. The pepper comes through more in the finish. Very good beer, I loved it.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Batch 40:Pours a clean gold with no head, nose is of grass and spice. I must have gotten a bad bottle as there was no carbonation at all, other than that it was a great beer. I liked how the spices were scaled back on this beer a bit. It was more balanced than previous similar incarnations. Add carbonation to this bottle and it would have been a grand slam.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Batch 24 bomber. A big nose with complex spices that range from black pepper to ginger. A medium bodied beer that drives notes of ginger, white pepper, and the big Sichuan pepper that picks up mid palate through the long finish. Great beer!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a hazed gold with a huge white head. Beautiful nose, lovely yeast, spicy pepper, and even the ginger makes an appearance. This smells awesome. Medium bodied, spicy pepper up front, nice black pepper, spicy yeast. Moves to a lingering black pepper feel on the finish, another faint touch of ginger. This is lovely. Well done guys.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle served in a Southern Tier imperial glass. Batch #24
A: Pours a hazy golden amber color with a slow dissolving two finger height of white foam. It settles down to a thin ring. Some splotches of lace are left down the glass.
S: Definite yeasty notes up front with some mild must and fruity esters. The faintest hints of peppers are there on the finish of each sniff and it leaves a nice, fresh smell in the nose. Not overpowering in the least bit. Light cracker malts, but the yeast and pepper dominate the show.
T: Sichuan pepper upfront in the flesh state. The middle definitely gives way to the bready yeast, slight must and fruity esters. Mild sweetness in the middle as well from the malts, but the taste quickly leaves the palate which is sort of a let down. I was hoping for some aspect of the flavor, be it the peppers or the yeast, to stick around a little longer. As the beer warms more of the spiciness comes out and does linger around a little longer.
M: Light to medium bodied with a nice medium carbonation level. The finish is rather light and slightly watery. Easily drinkable.
O: I enjoyed the Poivre Rose more as I felt it was a beer with peppercorns as opposed to beer and peppers. I felt the taste was slightly disjointed and the yeast fought the sichuan peppers the whole way. It was still an easily drinkable saison, though, and I’m definitely excited for more to come in the Poivre series as I love the experimentation.
