4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2012 A big, spicy saison that not only lets the yeast sing with the clove but the peppercorns add a nice throat burn. Awesome.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. Batch 152. A glowing golden-orange color pours out of the bottle with a nice thick fluffy white head. A firm layer sticks around for the long haul. Really enjoy the aroma here; soft yeast and straw pair well with fruity notes of apple, pear, and strawberry. Light pepper mixes in as well as floral notes, thatís initially restraint until this breathes a bit and a stronger rose scent comes out. Lively in the mouth with cracker, yeasty, and floral sweetness. A light touch of fruity esters, yeast, straw, and rose peddles provide this with some good depth. Dry and peppery finish with plenty of floral sweetness hanging around. Refreshingly light despite the abv with a really good balance of sweetness from flowers, fruit, and crackers and dry, spicy notes from the Peppercorns. Yep, good one.

DC tasting thanks to noodleuser. Hazy tan yellow body. Sweet, but very true to style, belgo mouthfeel. Excellent, really well executed. Fruity and big yeast esters. Really mile with the peppercorn. Nice!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Batch 21. Pours light yellow with light banana yeast notes. Very deep spice notes of clove and peppercorn which break into a very long finish while deflecting the higher ABV.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a clean crisp golden brown with 3 fingers of fizzy head that fade quickly leaving no lace. Nose and taste are crisp, grassy, a bit of apricot sweetness with a big peppercorn spiciness on the finish. I personally would like to see the spice scaled back in the next run. Do that and Iíd probably adjust my rating to the 4.2-4.4 range.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Straw colored pour with a lingering white head. Aromas of flowers, caramel, butterscotch, and honey. Very smooth, yet fizzy palate with flavors of caramel, hops, orange peel, and a pepper-spiced finish. Tart, sweet, and bitter taste. Nice saison. Pipeworks is good. Check them out!

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bottle served in a Founders tulip. Batch 21.
A: Pour a semi hazy golden amber color with a fluffy white head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin ring and some light bubbly wisps.
S: Light citrus fruit flesh, some lemon rind, grass make up the initial part of the nose. There is light peppery notes and some mild funk with a little bit of must. Mild cheese is in the background.
T: The initial sip has great yeasty flavor profiles. Mild wet hay, some cheese, and phenolic notes as well. Peppery spice, Lemon pith bitterness and with a creamy malt body.
M: Medium to light bodied with an above average prickly carbonation that carries the flavors away a little to quickly. It is really drinkable though.
O: Very easy drinking and flavors are pretty balanced. I would have like a touch more spice from the peppercorns as I thought they were somewhat lost.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Poured a deep hazy golden hay color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of rustic malt with light sweet notes and some light peppery ester. Taste is also dominated by solid rustic malt with balanced sweetness level and light peppery notes with some good floral ester. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Solid offering and Iím glad the pink pepper notes were not overly dominant as it would have been a shame to hide some of the nice characteristics of this beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Binnyís Marcey. Guess Iíll be the first... Pours an attractive and hazy orangey gold with a huge rocky head, white, that persists to the end. The nose presents as quite fruity with a light white pepper slant, citrus and a vanilla thing. Some banana comes through as well. On tasting, it is again very fruity. The bitterness is really high here, perhaps a touch too much, particularly with the pepper and spices. Nice citrus and banana. Earthy black pepper brings some complexity. A bit sweet and bigger body than expected which kind of pulls it out of saison and into a just plain good Belgian beer. I can dig it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Binnyís Lincoln Park. Pours hazy golden with orange tints with white head. Aromas of biscuity malts, earthy spices, pepper, banana, and clove. Flavors of peppery spices, banana, clove, and some yeast. Not the lightest saison, but a tasty one.
