tmoreau (2570) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - AUG 26, 2014
Cellared 750 ml. bottle, shared and poured to snifters showing a dark, mahogany color, with a decent layer of tan head foam, and clingy spots of lacing. The nose was moderately roasted, cocoa, treacle, dark fruit, and some raspberry jam. Medium+ bodied, with soft carbonation, the taste was similar notes, with some syrupy stickiness, nicely melded alcohol, plus a distinct and lingering tartness. A tasty, cordial-like Stout.

Flavor of raspberry, chocolate, cocoa and chocolate syrup notes. Mild bitterness and some twang from the raspberries. Full bodied with a slick palate, below average carbonation. Finishes with chocolate and raspberry.

JBPortland (929) - Portland, Maine, USA - AUG 17, 2014
750ml bottle pours dark brown black with 2 finger offwhite head. Nose is earthy roast cocoa, stale coffee, soil, compost, some fruity raspberry and vinous notes. Taste is nice creamy hershey chocolate, chocolate syrup, some coffee bean, composty fruit, berry. Finish is creamy semi sweet cocoa, earthy bitter chocolate, berry syrup. Just a touch of weirdness I can’t put my finger on but tastes pretty good.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours black with a tiny, quickly dissipating head. It doesn’t even stick around long enough to figure out its color. The aromatics are of fudge, brownies, chocolate crème and vanilla. Full-bodied with a super silky mouthfeel and faint carbonation. The flavor is a blend of bittersweet chocolate with only a rumor of raspberry. Finishes chocolaty and quite warming. Great beer… BBB63 shipped the love my way!

750 ml shared at the Swamp Head Bottle Drop. Pours dark brown to black with a small khaki head. Aroma is huge chocolate covered raspberries, really nice, with just a hint of roast. Flavor follows as expected with big raspberry flavor, some dark chocolate, and more raspberry. This almost drinks like a fruit beer with a little extra heft. Not too sweet, and tastes like raspberries rather than cough syrup, but just touches the border onto the medicinal side. Very very sweet nonetheless. Medium plus body, adequate carbonation. Don’t need much of this to get the gist, and definitely one to share. Very glad I got a chance to try it.

Dark brown pour with a dark tan head. Lots of sweet raspberries and chocolate. Once you taste this beer....you know how they came up with the name.
