Sample from batch #117 at Kurtkeller 004: Pipeworks-tastic 01 on 01/18/2014. Pours a dark cola color with a medium foamy tan head that dissipates gradually. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of raspberries, chocolate and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of tart raspberry, chocolate malt and slight coffee. The finish is malty and fruity with a slightly sour raspberry aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750 ml bottle. We did a side by side- by side with the other variants of the stout. ok it looks like it should. The nose indeed raspberry and chocolate. Something that I don’t like about these beers is they take a mediocre stout and add fruit puree. The flavor is weak chocolate stout with raspberry puree. Its drinkable but no where near worth the hype. Well, if you enjoy fruit purees in your stout, you might like this. This was the only drinkable out of all the fruit abductions.

Bottle - Pours black with a thin tan ring of head. Nose is chocolate-covered raspberry with lightly roasted dark malt. Taste is the same--seedy raspberry with dark chocolate. Sweet but not overpowering, with a little coffee. Thinner than I would have guessed.

Bottle sampled at a tasting event. From notes. Loads of raspberry and chocolate. My god, I could drink this everyday. Another homerun from Pipeworks.

(3/31/13) Pour - Pours black brown with hints of red and a finger and a half of khaki head. Nose - Raspberries, shit tons of raspberries here. I mean a lot of raspberry. It almost masks the roast and chocolate undertones, but manages to not completely take over. Smells just like a chocolate covered raspberry truffle. The nose is wonderful. Taste - Again, tons of raspberry. A veritable deluge of raspberry. From beneath the fruity onslaught, roasted malt and a bit of hop bitterness surface. Any complexity here is almost hidden by the raspberry flavors. Whereas the raspberry was sweet on the nose, it is more bitter with the taste. The finish is bitter and tart, almost acidic, from the raspberries. This was more tart/bitter/acidic than I expected. Mouthfeel - Quite a bit thinner than I expected. Definitely on the thin side of medium bodied. I really wish Pipeworks would work on the mouthfeel on their brews. More often than not their stouts are on the thin side and some weight would enhance their brews a bit as far as mouthfeel is concerned. Overall - I was sadly disappointed by this. I had high hopes after how unbelievably amazing Coffee Break Abduction was, but was let down by this due to 1) how bitter and acidic the taste was and 2) how uncomplex it was due to the raspberries dominating every aspect of the brew. Where the nose was sweet and chocolate, the taste was dominated by the bitter and acidic aspects of raspberries.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2013 Pours dark with a red hue. The head was sticky and bubbly. In the aroma I noticed a strong raspberry scent, cocoa, dark malts, and biscuit like grains. The flavor was of roasted malts, raspberry fruit, bitter chocolate, and a slight tart finish. The finish was intriguing. Overall a good brew to enjoy.
