"Patio season." Two of the finest word ever to lay upon Chicago ears. Named for the sun we so long for, our new saison celebrates the opportunity to squeeze the summer out of this city. Loaded with Amarillo hops, fresh squeezed citrus juice, and fresh citrus zest, this saison screams summer. Tan those broad shoulders people, youíve earned it.

750ml bottle. Standard american farmhouse saison with nice dosage of Citrius which seems like its coming from both juice and hops. Slight peppery. Decent.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange amber with a big foamy head and a rich sweet and tart grapefruit aroma, which also has a note of sour. Flavor is quite tart and bitter with a mild sweet citrus body. Finishes quite bitter.

Sample from batch #159 at Kurtkeller 004: Pipeworks-tastic 01 on 01/18/2014. The beer pours a slightly hazy yellow-gold color with a medium white head that burns away steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, malt and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of pithy citrus, toasted malt and yeast. The finish is fruity with an herbal yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottle. Hazy golden yellow pour, lots of yeasty sediment. I donít really get a ton of the citrus, though I do get a litle bit of orange, I suppose. Iíd say I get more flower in it than citrus fruit. Smooth and easy to drink, has a very velvety mouthfeel IMO.

[Bottle (750ml) at Saloon League.] Pours a hazy copper with a large semi-lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma of herbs & spices, citrus, yeast, banana and grain. Flavour starts tart, then gets sweet, with lots of fruit (citrus and more), sweet malt, yeast, herbs and spices. Light bitter finish. Medium bodied. A little too sweet for the style (for me) but pretty good overall.

750 ml bottle served in a Pipeworks snifter. Batch # 157. A: Pours a hazy peach color with a pure white head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thick ring with a wispy film still coating the top. Sticky sheets of lace are left down the glass. S: Nice underlying citrus notes right off the bat. Slightly sweet with more of an orange flesh note to it. Once it warms up the yeasty notes come out with a little it of stone fruit and slight spice. T: Normal saison notes are there with some the slightly spiced yeast, a little coriander with a hint of lavender. Itís not soapy, however. Light bready malt body provides a touch of sweetness and there is an ever so slight drying bitterness on the finish. Iím not getting as much zest as I would have hoped for, but it is there in the periphery. M: Medium to light bodied with a nice dry texture. Medium carbonation level with a slight bitterness on the finish. O: The zest was a little to understated in the taste for me, but the saison base was nice. Overall Iíd definitely have this again and itís probably the best Saison that Pipeworks has put out thus far. Serving type: bottle 07-10-2013

Sampled at Perennialís Midwest Belgian Beer Festival - Pours hazy orange / yellow with an off-white head. The aroma has earthy saison yest, blood orange, grapefruit and medium toasted malt. It has a medium body that has some light huskiness and minor carbonation. The flavor starts with cellar must, lots of citrus, saison earthiness and light bugs. The finish has lingering citrus. Great saison.

750 from Binnyís downtown, I think. Citrus and flora. Big orange zest. Citrus all over. Not totally saison but tasty. It has a bit of the Citrus Ninja to it.
