3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
I’m a little conflicted about this one, because of its unusual appearance and palate, but man is it a very tasty barleywine!
So the issue is this is truly way out there on the barleywine end of the spectrum. . . to the point that it’s nearly flat, in terms of carbonation. Traditional, but I prefer a little more bubble (outside the cask).
Nose is unremarkable, but the color gives you a hint something is unusual here, as it’s not just the usual carmely hue, but a bit of a blazing (bloody?) red to it.
But man that flavor. So cool to get the unicorn hop vibe, along with all of its raging bitter profile, wrapped around a syrupy, roasty barleywine.
Tastey tastey stuff. . . might make you wince a bit when you first taste, but as the flavors play out of the next couple minutes, going all the way from blazing lemony bitters to rich sweet leathery carmel. . . sigh. . .

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from the bomber a murky brownish copper. White head. Slight lacing. Aroma is a surprising floral pine citrus caramel mix. Taste is nicely bitter, caramel, with a sweet brown sugar finish. There is an additional spiciness that I can’t place. It has characteristics of both an IPA and a barleywine. Medium mouthfeel, good carbonation. This is a lovely drink that nicely masks the 10% ABV. Bought fresh from The Beer Temple in Chicago, only 5 days old.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours pretty murky amber with a deeper barely red hue there and gray head. The aroma brings malt forward flavors, not too sweet with almost a twinge of lemon. The flavor brings not sickening sweet but balanced malts with a big body, and almost a hint of the candy canes from the Christmas label.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
650ml bottle. Wonderful, clear, red glowing chestnut colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Fruity hoppy aroma has notes of condensed peach, orange, a sharp bitter peppery touch, some resin, caramel malty basis with hints of almond, amaretto, biscuit. Taste is minimally to moderately sweet caramel malty, piney hoppy overtones, slightly bitter, hints of almond, bitter almond, orange biscuit, orange zest, rose hip. Intense, complex, superbly balanced.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber bought @ bierkompass.de. Pours hazy amber with a creamy goldenish red head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, fruity and herbal with crackers, biscuits, caramel, pine needles, grapefruit juice, orange zest, resinous wood, grapefruit rinds, alcohol and hints of overripe tropical fruits. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and hoppy with crackers, biscuits, caramel, pine needles, grapefruit rinds, orang and lemon zest, resinous wood, dried apricots, overripe pineapple, overripe mango, grapefruit juice and alcohol. Mouthfeel is round, tiny sticky sweet, slightly oily bitter and near full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with caramel, bread, alcohol, pine, resinous wood, grapefruit rinds and golden syrup. Very nice...

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle with a terrible label. Amber pour with a white head. Corn and malt aromas. Sweet malt and almost hoppy notes. Poor mouthfeel and body. A sweet mess that much like Afghanistan is bombed out and depleted.
