4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle shared by a man person. pours reddish gold with white head. nose is very piney and grapefruity. flavor has the right balance of caramel sweetness and piney and grapefruity hop character. really reminds me of bigfoot but perhaps this has a bigger hop character and the malts dont get that plasticy. itís clean and defines the american barleywine style very well. iím not a big fan of the style anymore but I still know this one is done right. Iím still shocked people complained that this beer was too hoppy for the style.

Bottle... Hazy burnt-orange pour with a small, creamy, white head. Fruity, malty-sweet aroma. Full-bodied with busy carbonation. The fruity flavor offers marmalade and fruitcake intertwined with caramel, berries and tropical fruits. Finishes with a kiss of light, rindy bitterness. Bottle courtesy of BBB63!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from 12oz bottle, pours a murky dark amber brown with a thin light brown head and spotty lacing in the glass, aroma has a slight hop touch and has a good kick of dark fruit and sweetness, the flavor has a sweet front end with some caramel and a little bit of dark fruit in the finish, the abv is pretty well hidden, kind of a slick mouthfeel and comes across a tad bit light. Interesting, just didnít blow me away.

Damn good. Nice hops are balanced out with some ripe red fruit esters. Alcohol content is hidden really well.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a dark mahogany with a finger and a half of creamy mocha head that lingers for a whole. Has a very sticky lacing. Nose is very fruity and malty. A lot of plum, cherry, and grape, with a slight presence of citrusy grapefruit. A slight roastiness and caramel stickiness. The mouth is defniltty not what i was expecting. Roasted malts and grain are strong up front with a balanced dark fruit sweetness, mainly plum and cherry. A decent amount of bitterness is present. The alcohol is very subtle. Excellent beer.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber from the Art of Beer. Batch 266-69, so early December batch date - quite fresh. Pours a coppery red with a clingy brownish red head leaving some nice streaks of lace. Aroma is all double IPA; pine, citrus, caramel and fruits. Lovely, and unexpected in a "barleywine". Taste is of resin, sweet caramel, sweet fruits, pine and citrus fruits (orange, grapefruit). Sweet fruity and caramelly with resiny depth and tang. Medium to full bodied and sticky. Slight alcohol presence. Finishes to the sweet and fruity side of bittersweet, but with enough citrus to balance the caramel. This is a great cross between DIPA and barleywine, which likely ticks the rating up some points in my book. Not sure how it would age, as hoppy as it is. Regardless, a lot of depth and flavor, and another stellar effort from Pipeworks.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bonus from a recent trade. May have downed most of this one a little quick. Ooops. Just a testament to how smooth this big alcohol drink is. A rich caramel and lightly hopped barley wine. Some red fruit working throughout and a sticky sweet finish. Bit of a citrus hop bite on the very end.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear dark copper color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex caramel, citrus earthy hop aroma. Medium to full body with smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy smooth bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer and exceeded my expectations.
