HonkeyBra (3370) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - JAN 29, 2013
22 oz. bottle. Reddish orange almost brown pour with a small off-white head. Aroma of big juicy hops, citrus, pine, lots of caramel and toffee malt. Impressive hop presence in the aroma. Flavor is quite upfront with hop bitterness, mild sweetness from the malt. Creamy, full bodied, medium carbonation. This finishes long and bitter. This is really nice. Nice, thick hoppy barley wine.

A- pours a turbid apple cider brown with honey colored edges. Solid finger of light tan head and great lacing. S- aromas are more nuanced than other pipeworks barley wines. Caramel, apple candies, and toffee are still strong, but some coffee grounds, pine, dirt and citrus pith create a balanced entry. Various hop notes are mixed in, like grapefruit, grass and soap with some lively wet zinc dancing in the back of the nose. M- chewy and lightly gritty medium body. Decent carb. T- dirty, dry start with some overripe apples, caramel and toffee. Cinnamon and nutmeg spices follow. Hop notes, coriander, grape seed, orange and grapefruit introduced towards the middle. Ending is sharper with some bitter grasses, celery, soap and pepper. Minerals too. Nice take on the style and alcohol is well hidden and lacks a heavy burn.

Bomber pours a murky brown with a small khaki head. Aroma of caramel and toffee. Creamy chewy texture, heavy caramel and toffee flavors, alcohol and some lingering hop bitterness on the finish. Yep, that a barley wine thatís been on the shelf awhile, not bad as far as those go

Almost opaque dark red - brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is mildly crisp, minerals. Rich toffee malt with a dark toffee streak. Light malt cream. Salty hops, pine and spice and a touch of ripe orange. Whispers of marmalade and red berry fruits. Finishes light with a carbonated bite. Very nice US style barleywine.

Bottle... Hazy burnt-orange pour with a small, creamy, white head. Fruity, malty-sweet aroma. Full-bodied with busy carbonation. The fruity flavor offers marmalade and fruitcake intertwined with caramel, berries and tropical fruits. Finishes with a kiss of light, rindy bitterness. Bottle courtesy of BBB63!

Poured from 12oz bottle, pours a murky dark amber brown with a thin light brown head and spotty lacing in the glass, aroma has a slight hop touch and has a good kick of dark fruit and sweetness, the flavor has a sweet front end with some caramel and a little bit of dark fruit in the finish, the abv is pretty well hidden, kind of a slick mouthfeel and comes across a tad bit light. Interesting, just didnít blow me away.

Damn good. Nice hops are balanced out with some ripe red fruit esters. Alcohol content is hidden really well.

Pours a dark mahogany with a finger and a half of creamy mocha head that lingers for a whole. Has a very sticky lacing. Nose is very fruity and malty. A lot of plum, cherry, and grape, with a slight presence of citrusy grapefruit. A slight roastiness and caramel stickiness. The mouth is defniltty not what i was expecting. Roasted malts and grain are strong up front with a balanced dark fruit sweetness, mainly plum and cherry. A decent amount of bitterness is present. The alcohol is very subtle. Excellent beer.

Bottle - Pours hazy amber with a thin tan head. Nose is grassy hops, real dark bread, dry and bitter. Taste is the same, with caramel, dry, with muted grassy hops. Thick, with mellow carbonation.

Very smooth with barley, citrus and wine overtones for a 10abv beer. Fresh and a little thick. Reddish Amber hue and a medium caramel head. Really tasty.
