3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
3rd June 2014
Light haze on this deep amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and airy. Fine carbonation. Light creamy malt base, very light. Resinous orange and pine hops with lesser tangerine and a little hop spice. Light dry finish. Very light and very tasty. Unlike the Centennial, no toffee malt skewing things.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: APR 29, 2013 Jsut about everything you could ever want or need in a simcoe ber. Tongue slashing bitterness, huge citrus and pine, incredible. Now they just gotta make an amarillo blen, or a mixture of citra and simcoe.
Full bottle review-
650 ml ottle. Amber pour, nice white head. INstant smell of the sweet, almost nougaty scent of the base beer carrying a massive overload of sticky, tropical, piney, resinous, citrus hops. The flavor is an unyilding barrage of citrus and tropical fruits, pine, and resin. Medium to high bitterness, total cohesiveness. Awesome.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle and served in my PW snifter: Pours a coppery hue with a good head and lace. The aroma has notes of mango, peaches, tangerines along with some resiny pine and caramel malts. Earthy and bready as well upon deeper inspection. The taste is balanced perhaps too much as it really needed to warm to get the full force of the hops, fruity, catty, resiny and minerally along with a pronounced caramel maltiness. While you get more hops as it warms to also get more alcohol character as well. The mouth feel is lush and aggressive, boozy and a touch band-aid. Overall it is okay, hoped for more. Not a good a Cascade Ninja but better than Citra Ninja.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle:   Citrusy example, but not too bright or sweet.   Also doesn’t seem like much of an IIPA as the 9.5% isn’t noticeable.   Seems like a decent IPA tho.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   A little pith and peel, but also some nice of the orangy citrusy bits.   Comes across as a big citrusy IPA, but not enough malty or heftiness to be an IIPA.   I would say pretty solid IPA, but as a Double IPA, a bit on the weak side.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at Frank’s shared with Frank, Bill, Vin and Ryan. Pours a light amber body with large, thick orange-white head. Aroma is light hop and big malt on the nose. Mouthfeel is dominated by malt, unfortunately, masking much of the hop profile. Not sure if this is as fresh as it could be - so I look forward to trying this again.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle courtesy of Berkot’s (Lockport, IL). Took forever to finally find the Simcoe. Pours a good copper hue, deeper glowing elements through the body show orange and dark golden glow. A decent haziness and frothy whitish head atop dies to a filmy layer, laces ok. Aromas offer more earthy elements, a bit catty, florals and grass meet some resiny pine. Sticky malts show fruit and toffee, caramel and bready elements. A bit sweet, the grapefruit and citrus elements really come on more as we work in. Initial is a bit big and sweet for my liking, medium bodied with a flash of bitter hops to start, resiny and floral, grapefruit juice and lemon quickly meet a more sweet and malty middle. Toffee, caramel, and bready malts, some gumball, crystal like sweetness. A bit toasty, some gentle ABV like heat comes on as we start to round the corner. More bitterness returns, firmly dry and trying to counter that weird middle for me. Some citrus, tropical fruits, and decent hop presence linger on into the finish. A bit more heat, soap and some pine, sticky sweet malt profile. Feels a bit messy, the hops have certainly held up though in the fridge. Solid, but not my favorite of the Pipeworks hoppy offerings.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
From the April 2014 3R6P gathering. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange-amber color with a small foamy white head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was pine, resin, a bit of catbox with a tangy and sweet undertone. The flavor was tangy pine, caramel, honey, catbox and ends bitter. Long bitter finish. Medium body. Ok.
