3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
One of the most pungent aromas I’ve ever smelled upon cracking open a bottle-- you would have though it was a 22oz container of candied peaches and melons, packaged in hibiscus tea, it’s that tropical and fruity smelling.
But then you pour what looks like a pretty "normal" beer-- light, lagery color, mostly clear.
And then the taste resembles neither the appearance or the smell-- sharp earthy, gritty, bitterness with a relatively light mouth feel. It doesn’t feel as thick or syrupy as Ninja v Unicorn or Blood of the Unicorn.
A really interesting IIPA. I wish they’d balanced out the bitterness with a bit more of the sweet, but it’s really hard to complain about, for any true hop lover-- especially as long as you keep breathing in deeply as you drink (the smells really interact with the flavors heavily in this one).

Got in a trade with TheFugitive. 22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/26/2014. Pours slightly hazy bright orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, floral, grass, pine, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, floral, grass, pine, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of smooth pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, lemon zest, orange peel/rind, floral, grass, pine, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Outstanding complexity and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate malt sweetness; with a nice crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth and fairly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome single hopped DIPA. All around great complexity and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Location: Draft at Map Room, 7/16/14, Rating #3800!
Aroma: This one has a nice resin/pine hop nose, with some tropical fruity hops too
Appearance: It pours an orange color with a creamy off-white head and some solid lace
Flavor: The taste of this beer is much the same as the nose, with a really nice hop presence to it
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has a creamy mouthfeel, and a dry finish
Found this one to be really quite enjoyable. A very nice beer. I am glad to have tried as much Pipeworks stuff as I have on various trips to Chicago, and I look forward to trying more of their stuff.

Very crisp, clean, and flavorful. Nice citrus, grass, and pine flavors and some slight earthiness with subtle hints of orange and grapefruit zest. Not overly sweet which is nice.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours cloudy apricot with low white head. Aroma of pine, grapefruit, peach, light apricot, light vanilla. Taste is very hop intense initially, crisp and piney, before fruit sweet (again, apricot and peach comes to mind) sets in, then the lingering massive bitter finish kicks in. Body is surprisingly light, smooth and slightly oily at the same time, with average carbonation.
