3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle... Murky, dark peach ale with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The nose is a swirl of tropical fruits and melons – like a creamy guanabana, guava, papaya, and pineapple milk shake. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and jazzy carbonation. The flavor is an assortment of fruity, malty, sweet nectars blended with rindy, pithy, bitter hops. Slightly astringent, bittersweet, super-fruity finish. Bottle courtesy of BBB63!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
651mL at RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours a clear lighter orange. Rocky, off-white foam. Webby lacing. Nose is heavy butterscotch, melons, vanilla, caramel, dank hops, lots of dessert character. Taste is similar with buttercream, caramel, butterscotch, sugary tropical melons. Palate is dense, sticky, oily. Definitely on the sweeter, dessert side of DIPA but no typical DIPA flaws like nutty astringency, tea leaf tannins, old candies, cheesecloth.

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 2, 2014 Galaxy isn’t my fav hop variety but they got all they could out of it in this one, I havent had a galaxy ipa with as intense of a flavor. Huge aroma, just huge. Flavor has a high slighly herbal bitterness and layers of citrus rind and tropical hop goodness. Note to Pipeworks: had another bottle of this and citra ninja in the past 2 days and there is a butterscotch element to both. Not sure why.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bomber bottle and served in my 1st Pipeworks snifter: This is dank, hell it is more dank than Blood of the Unicorn but that had some attempt to soften the crushing blows. I am simply not a fan of this hop in such quantities or the other new uber aggressive high alpha hops that simply dominate beers. Not really much more I need to say.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber thanks to Lemonhead. Pours a clear yellow color with a large white head. A massive nose of fruit, citrus some grass. Excellent flavor of rich citrus, dry, long lingering bitterness, huge resin at times. Very clean and well done. Soft palate. Very mellow but flavorful. Excellent.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 oz. bottle, sent from StFun (thanks Josh), pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of orangey hops, wheat, some resin and syrupy caramel malts. Flavour brings out pungent resinous hops, tropical fruits, oranges, and slightly syrupy caramel malts. Quite an astringency from the hops, yet the caramel malt is very prominent as well. Good stuff, but too heavy on the malts for me and the malt is a bit too syrupy for me. Overrated.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz bottle acquired from Binnys Marcey (Chicago, IL). Pours a well hazed amber orange hue, nice haziness. A frothy offwhite layer of head is a good size, stays around as a firm layer. Laces ok overall. Aromas offer big Galaxy hop element, white grape and tropical fruit, melon and good florals. Grass, tangerine, and tropical fruits really meld well. Strong hop aromas with some sweetness beneath, aided by the hops. Some bready and pale malts, a bit sweeter at times. Dry florals and bigger fruit hop elements. Initial is a strong dry bitter hopping to hit first, getting some floral, citrus and melon, white grape and mango and tropical fruit elements pushing in firmly as we enter. Dry and floral, the front end is fruit and dry hops, the middle staying dry, floral, earthy and firm to strong bitterness from a nice hop profile. A complex flavor results in a melange of fruit and hop elements through the middle, some bready malts, pale malts, grain. A bit soapy, tropical fruit, melon into that backend where it’s still dry and bitter, but those fruit elements also add a touch of sweetness. Rich hop flavors cycle through the beer, ending with a firmly dry and bitter finish, lingering citrus and florals. Grass, earth, a touch of resiny pine or alcohol push gives some presence in there. Pretty damn fresh, a rich melange of hops creates a great flavor. The beer itself a bit sweet at times because of it. I really dig this beer, it’s fresh, lively, and complex. But I’d personally keep Citra and NvU above this one for overall experience and an expertly dry and bitter experience throughout. The Galaxy hops add some rich complexity in this one. Pretty damn good.
