4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Swaroga (355) - Brussels, BELGIUM - MAY 17, 2012
75cl bottle. Amber and slightly hazy liquid with medium white head. Nose : the aromas are fresh but covered by the foam, expressing mostly by the wet laundry overall feeling. After an instant i feel tart aromas. In the background I sense malt alcohol and caramel. Honey. Sip : The body is medium and oily, it has a creamy feeling and since mouthful isn’t my best adjective , in this case I mean it as a complement. It has a medium carbonation. The flavor is sweet with a feeling of cake aroma of vanilla. It’s very rich with honey and flower. Strong caramel and egg notes. This is a very rich beer, very interesting. There is one down side, it isn’t that drinkable but when it comes to quality and flavor it is a real miracle. Nice one. Extra points for the great body.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 patricks110 (901) - Alberta, CANADA - MAY 16, 2012
Pours out a dark brazen amber with a thick yellowish head with big popping bubbles and a nice dense layer. Intense carbonation. The nose is sweet with honey and citrus fruit notes and a mildly spiced yeast. Lemon zest and light clove spice as well as a hint of caramel malt. The middle has sweet malts and flavors, of toffee, caramel and honey. Light spiced notes with a grainy malt and a fruity taste throughout. Notes of honeydew and lemon zest. Light bitterness and astringent hop on the finish. Dont notice the alcohol at all. Great beer!

750mL Cork and Caged, like a belgian IPA, this must have been fairly fresh... still plenty of hops and balanced booze, this one packs a wallop.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 badhack (74) - San Jose, California, USA - MAY 14, 2012
Pours an orangish golden or amber with tons of head that eventually dissipates. A bit funky aroma and the taste was similar, a lot hoppier than I expected with some malt flavor and a sour fruity flavor and slightly sweet.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 StormCoat (95) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 13, 2012
Picked up a bottle at Mesa Liquor in San Diego. Pours hazy, red-amber with very little head. Aromas are very sweet and a bit yeasty, with hints of alcohol coming through. Flavors are a mixture of juicy and candied fruits (citrus, banana, etc), and sweet spices, with a long lingering finish and a slightly bready aftertaste. Somewhat fine, fizzy carbonation. Very good.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 quiznoaz (211) - Arizona, USA - MAY 11, 2012
Arg! Its a Christmassy ale, too frou frou for a true Pirate. Definitely different than I expected, from the malty aroma, to the sweet spicy flavor, to the lack of bite (if their parrots bite, so should their ale). I guess its ok for all that though.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DrSilverworm (1016) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 9, 2012
11.2 oz bottle. Nice, thin off-white head, leaving decent lace. Mildly hazy orange color. Nice, lively looking carbonation, with a good, soft texture. Dry and smooth. Good, light spicy taste. Very tasty belgian to sip on. Good funky belgian yeast qualities, but they are subtle and well-blended. Only a bit of warmth. I sought this out after hearing about it’s 2012 World Beer Cup award. While that knowledge might have biased me, I’m convinced that it was well-deserved

Tap. Fluffy light tan head on a rusty dark amber orange. Fruity, citrus, sweet maltiness and some raisins. Sweet, raisiny, some oxidation, dark fruits with a slight touch of mango. Medium body with subtle carbonation. Very fruity and sweet.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 ronaldtheriot (438) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - MAY 3, 2012
Piraat has a thick, fluffy, slightly off-white head and a solid orange or peach appearance, with a few little streaming bubbles one can detect on the sides of the glass. There are some thin lacing rings left behind. Aroma is quite fruity, as one gets pear, white wine, sugar, white bread, and water. Taste is of pear, peaches, citrus peel, bitterness at the end and in the undertaste, alcohol sweetness, white bread, and clean water. Mouthfeel is medium to thick, and Piraat finishes wet and sloppy. Overall, this a wonderfully crafted beer, and I highly recommend it. RJT

Had this on tap. Poured nicely with little head into a St Bernadus Abt 12 chalice. Aroma was barnyard, wild yeast smell with a hint of lemon. Smooth drinking could not even taste the alcohol at all in this on tap. Bready taste with a soft easy finish. Mouth feel was light.
