17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 21, 2009 Pours a clear glowing golden with a fine white head. Fruity and spicy aroma reminiscent of Gulden Draak, cherry cough syrup, rich caramel, some alcohol, cinnamon apples. Also tastes somewhat similar, fruity and rich, quite spicy with a moderate hop profile, cinnamon apples and slightly metallic, some light vinegar as well. Medium bodied with fine sizzling carbonation. madvike (301), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Feb 17, 2009 Bottle pours a nice golden hue with a big, frothy head. The nose is really spicy, which follows through to the taste. Real watery in the mouth. Ends bitter, with an unpleasant sour taste. Something just seemed off here. blklab2007 (938), Connecticut, USA Feb 16, 2009 bottle poured a light golden amber color with a one finger white head that was thick and retained forever. aroma has some banana yeasts, light spice, grains, and sweetness. mouth feel is on the light side and the carbonation is high. flavor has a nice banana yeast profile, again grainy, low spices, and a fairly hefty sweetness. really frothy with the carbonation and finishes with an enjoyable yeast and alcohol punch. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Feb 14, 2009 Appearance: Pours a clear, bronze-hued body with a large, last, white head. Gobs of splotchy lacing on the way down.
Smell: Sugary, spicy, delicately grainy malts served up alongside a tray of juicy, fresh-cut fruits and a single shot of clean alcohol.
Taste: Initially, you’re greeted with a sugar sweetened, clove-spiced doughy malt character. Next up is a blitz of fruit flavors: peach, pineapple, and banana. Additional taste of bitter orange zest with a medium-low bitterness. Peppery alcohol character remains for the warming, dwindlingly fruity finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-high, finely-textured carbonation.
Drinkability: Paired well with "Lazy Confessions" by the Moldy Peaches. Though the alcohol is noticeable it’s not glaring or, as a wise man once said, "It drink pretty good, don’t it?" However, when the plummeting US economy drives me to a pirate-based livelihood, I’ll probably stick to dark rum instead of Piraat. That’s just me though! altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Feb 6, 2009 Cracked Kettle. Light golden ale with fluffy head. Citrus nose and strong citrus and hoppy taste. Alcohol relatively well-masked. Some malt in the finish. Nice beer. On goûte des saveurs de banane, d’alcool, de grain blonde avec une amertume d’alcool. fluffy (229), Florida, USA Feb 5, 2009 bottle to tulip glass. golden yellow with a effervesent head. aroma is astringent and yeasty. flavor is citrus and yeast with a little hoppy backbite. not bad.
