Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

[bottle from dorsvlegel] Aroma is spicey with some banana and a shit load of alcohol. body is ok but alcohol overpowers the flavour. the finish is all alcohol burn, some might say the raw burn.

Not much of an aroma. Great color. Flavor is fruity and malty. Finishes sweet and spicy. Yum!

Soft malty aroma with a touch of citrus. Malty, alcoholic flavor with some distant fruit to soften up this beer. Pleasant, but with a limited character.

From the bottle, pours a pale, dark orange-yellow with a thick, foamy white head that leaves a nice lacing on the glass. Smells like a Belgian. Aromas of some corn, light malts, and some pineapple or apricots fill the nose. Tates like a Belgian, too. The first sip is fully of spices and citrus (lemons, that pineapple/apricot combo). The rest of the beer is strong and full in flavor, with the fruit and spices becoming more pronounced, finishing with an aftertaste of cloves and yeast, as well as alcohol. Pretty good, if you like Belgians.

whoh! WOH-MAN! out of the bottle pours a slightly hazy golden-copper hue. small white head lingers creamily around the edges and lays swamplike towards the center. considerable streaks of lacing ice the sides of the glass. spicy, peppery aroma w/sharp hops- made me sneeze (literally) and pierced my senses giving me a pointed headache. first sip is a surprising bite of bitter hops, onions, celery and citrus. besides my nose which seems permanently irrated this thick consistency of offensive flavors, feeling like plaque build-up on my tongue is big and bad. I see what they were trying to do...but NO. how bout NO?!

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2006 Slightly hazy, orangish amber pour with a nice creamy head. Aromas of sweet orange, lemon, apricot, malt, and yeasts create a complex nose. Flavors of sweet fruits dominate intially, but they are followed by a strong alcohol presense that is neither too sharp or too hard. Complex fruits and spice linger on the tongue for a long pleasing finish. This is an excellent Belgian ale that is on the sweet side of the spectrum.

Definitly has a georgeous head. Incredibly sweet and obvious notes of alcohol. Not too shabby, but maybe a bit sweet for me. The sweetness tends to be a common complaint for me with this type though, i am more of an IPA guy. But, still not complainin.

330ml bottle - pours a very hazy, deep gold amber color with a nice three finger, creamy head, but is disapates quickly. Lacing is average for a quality Belgium Beer. Aroma is nice and complex, mostly malts, lemon, citrus, yeast and other semi-sweet fruit. Flavor is full of smei-semi-sweet fruits, apricot, orange and hints of spices and vanilla. The alcohol, although well hidden, does come to the front now and then. This is a powerful brew and can sneak up on you quickly. Aftertaste is very full, rich and spicy. This is a great beer!

Bottle. Presents with a hazy, deep golden, fizzy pour. Big, fluffy white head, but dissapates quickly. Complex rich aromas of fresh dough, yeast, lemon, apricot and malt. Even though this ale is well carbonated to style, its hefty body presents a full, smooth mouthfeel. Flavors of citrus, yeast, vanilla and a fruity sweetness are quite assertive but blend well and are pleasantly accentuated by the high alcohol content. Late palate transforms into a nice moderate hoppy bitterness which cuts down the ale’s sweet side and results in a long pleasing finish. An excellent Belgian and worth seeking out.

An excellent Belgian Ale. This has a sweet aroma, pours out a nice golden-amber color with a great white head. The flavor is strong, fruity and spicy, and the palate is excellent.
