COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2006 Pours cloudy yellow in color with a fluffy white head. Too much for the style. Fruity aroma. Apples and pears. Tart tasting. Very strong. Flavor is smooth with a sharp finish.

I had the at the t'Brugs Beertje in Bruges about 7 years ago. Orangeish color with the big head you expect. Flavor is fruity and smooth with a warming aftertaste (alcohol). I wish I could find a bottle over here for a re-rate. Good as far as I can remember.

Pours clour yellow orange with a tan fluffy head. Fruity alcohol aroma with notes of raisin, peach, banana, and God knows what. Flavor is smooth with a sharp finish, maybe of hops or like something. Candi sugar evident. A little much.

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2004 Rated 2003-03-21. I knew this would be better warmer... Cloves and honey are everywhere. Dry finish reminiscent of Duvel but less bitter. Much better than the cold version. Even warm the alcohol is more of a warmth than an overriding flavour.
Rated 2005-03-05. I had this at the Heritage Belgian Beer cafe, it was too cold by about a million degrees, even after I held it for about 5 minutes, then I gave up and drank the damn thing anyway. Small head with no lace, malty smell with honey. Nice rich palate. Mid tongue bitterness which seems unusual in belgians unless they are bad imitations of duvel, this may be an imitation but I don't think it's bad. I think served at a temp approaching something above freezing it would have been much better.

2/28/03 on tap-Always a treat to find Piraat on tap. Such a lovely beer-nice fluffy head and gorgeous color and clarity. Flavor is more hoppy than belgians usually are and has a slight lactic sourness that fits in nicely. Bottles of this can be hit or miss, but on tap its always a treat.

This beer pours a pale orange colour with a creamy white head. Slight scent of vineger with a real doughy scent. Alcohol on the nose is warm. A little orange citrus with a malty pepperish bite. First sip...Bold flavour of a mix between spices and sour milk. The finish was warm and very alcoholic with a bitter/sour flavour. Palate was medium creamy texture with a real doughy / yeasty flavour.

Golden color with a beautiful white head. The taste is sweet and fruity. Finish kind of sharp and slight alcoholic. Very nice beer.

Draught at Den Tatoverede Enke (The tattooed widow), Copenhagen.
Extremely solid tan head on a dark yellow body. Aroma is quite mild fruity and sweet with an alcoholic undertone. Flavor is very smooth, fruity and sweet. Bitter finish. Nice beer that hides the high ABV very well!!

Pours somewhat cloudy yellow-orange with a medium off-white head. Crackers and grapes in the aroma. Flavor is very yeasty with tangy, over-the-top sweetness, crackers, white grapes, pineapple juice, and alcohol. Earthy hops round out the rather cloying body. Unique but ultimately not satisfying.

The alcohol taste was almost over powering. Had undertones of raisins, apples and bread. Hop spice and alcohol burn in the finish.
