3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
I donít know about the product description, and looking back on notes from a beer judge in the early nineties, this seems to have evolved away from itís complex routes to become the simplistic epitome of modern Belgian Golden Strongís. That said, and with an open mind to that huge alcohol, I found this to be a tasty easy sipper. Poured into a Piraat tulip, quite cool. Brilliant orange gold body with fine wispy carbonation raising up a thin, yet dense and creamy white head that lasted and left trails of lace down the glass (attractive little bugger!). Spicy, lemon/lime cordial, vanilla and candi sugar nose with notes of bread crumbs and prickly alcohol. Quite soft and smooth in the mouth; big in body and with the first mouthful brings on that huge ABV. Flavours were simple and seamless, between vanilla and lemon-candi for sweetness, doughy yeast, a light hint of herbs and spicy white wine towards the back, before a warming vodka like swallow reminiscent of lemon flavoured íAbsolut Citroní. Overall, I didnít mind this one, the alcohol managed to mellow as it warmed and it showed a little more fruit. Surprising!!! (33cL, 24BE 09:17)

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Eulogyís, Philadelphia, PA. ABV 10.5%. Clear golden yellow Belgium stong ale having no discernable head. No discernable carbonation. Nice sweet malt and fruity ester aromas. Medium bodied that starts with slight sweet malt and fruity grape flavors. Finishes dry with light malt aftertaste. No discernable bitterness. Definite alcoholic warmth. Excellent drinkable Belgium strong ale.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Good white head on a beautiful golden beer, slightly hazy. The aroma was yeast and cloves, the taste fruity, spicy and alcoholic with an aftertaste of bitter Seville oranges. Just the thing for a dank, misty December evening.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours sparkling gold with good creamy white head. Aroma is strong wth sweet malt, candy, and banana clove.Flavor is strong with alcohol, very warming going down. Sort of overpowers the fruit, malt, and sweetness of this beer. Dry finish Not bad, but I was honestly expecting a lot better.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (330ml). Beer of Belgium Gift pack 5of6. Poured bubbly clear gold with a decent thick lasting creamy white head, some good lacing left behind. Aroma has tons of sweet fruity/candy malt, rich yeast, cloves, banana esters, alcohol, even apple on warming - pleasant, but a bit muted. Taste is strongly of alcohol - almost harsh - but the malt, spice and fruit stay in there, and the alcohol burn diminishes noticeably as it warms. Decently thick body for the style, creamy , syrupy and alcoholic mouthfeel. Not bad, but I wasnít all that impressed.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: AUG 21, 2006 Rerate: 11.2oz, no date. decided I should rerate this now that I have the Piraat tulip. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a mod-large white head, which fades to a thick film. Aroma of bananas, yeast, alcohol, candied sugar and very light citrus. Flavor doesnít try to hide the alohol at all. There is the bananas and yeast again (strongest flavors), peppery hops, light lemon, and a dry finish It is fairly sweet, though the peppery hops help balance it and does a decent job from getting it to be cloying. Full bodied--almost syrupy, mod-high carbonation. Revisiting this did not disappoint. New rating: 7-4-7-4-16
Old rating follows
11.2oz bottle. Pours slightly hazy straw color with large, fluffy head. Smels of :banana, clove, yeast, and a little alcohol. Lot of alcohol in the taste, along with nice balance of malts and hops--canít tell which way it leans more towards. After the first few sips, the alcohol isnít quite so noticeable. Very good Belgian Strong, in my opinion.7-4-8-4-16

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Slightly hazy light gold, persistant large white head, nice lace. Yeasty bread aroma, noticeable alcohol, and some spice that I canít pin down. Medium full mouthfeel, nice for a beer that looks so light. Sweet-sour flavor punctuated by yeast and some peppery hops. Finish dries out nicely with some persisiting sourness.

A Mes rate:
Sweet tangy and alcoholic nose. Reasonable semi cloudy blonde looks with good head retention and nice lace. Spicy, creamy, soapy, slight citric notes and just way too much alcohol showing. Spicy and slightly acrid finish. *yawns*
